The Underground Motel in Coober Pedy is quite simply, fantastic. The owner, Mike, is a hard working generous soul who runs his business in a calm but incredibly efficient manner. The ensuite rooms are clean and have lots of character. A continental breakfast is included in the tariff, and as you help yourself to this in a well equipped little kitchen, it's all very relaxed as well as being a lovely way to interact with other travellers. We really enjoyed our stay at The Underground Motel and will recommend it to anyone who is heading to Coober Pedy. Don't miss it.

The motel is very clean and tidy. The friendly house keeper cleans the whole place and changes towels every day. Basic breakfast provided and just a short walk into 'town'. We only needed a couple day days in Coober Pedy to see everything.

Nice swinging chair and tables out the front of the motel to watch the sunsets across the dirt.

Room Tip: There is only one room with a window at the front - request this if you want to know when it gets light :)

We were a family of six people staying for two nights in one of the family room (one double bed in one room and two bunk beds in another room, no doors to the room though). The room wasn't huge, but it can be expected for an underground accommodation, which is also why we wanted to stay there: to experience living underground, a typical feature of Coober Pedy. Also with the good weather we had all our meals on the table just outside our room so we didn't feel too cramped at all. Great location too, the motel is on higher ground and we could enjoy amazing sunset view of the surroundings, Coober Pedy being fairly small, it was a walkable distance from most shops, restaurants and museums. Service was perfect, the lady at the reception was lovely and often asked us during our stay if she could help with anything. I definitely recommend the place!

We stayed at Coober Pedy on the 24th and 25 July and enjoyed our stay very much.
The were 5 of us so we had 3 rooms and all the rooms were fantastic. The lady who ran the Motel was one of the best workers we have seen, she seemed to do everything.
Breakfast was provided, basic continental style but enjoyable.
We would definitely stay here again, and to recommend it to our friends.

Room Tip: All rooms are good

A really cool place to stay! You will never stay in a motel like this one with rooms dug into the rocks. The suite was as advertised and worth the little extra it cost. The couple who operate the motel were very nice and accomodating. Don't miss the chance to stay here!

Room Tip: choose the suite
