Marron are freshwater lobster and are farmed here in the middle of Kangaroo Island. We had visited the cafe a couple of years ago along with the adjacent winery. On that occasion we had missed lunch but were offer a tasting plate which only served to whet the appetite to return for more.
We had both enjoyed marron occasionally in Adelaide restaurants but to indulge in this luxury at the source was very special.
We had the shared platter which, as described in the menu, contained a selection of fresh seafood along with the marron - and it was just fantastic. There are a number of different marron dishes on the menu as well as a selection of other foods including steak. Service was prompt and "county friendly" and the location and view, situated basically in the middle of a paddock was very calm and relaxing.
As mentioned elsewhere this is not fine dining, but it doesn't pretend to be or need to be. Just fantastically fresh & tasty food served in a friendly environment.
Check the local tourist guides for the seasonal meal times because they do change.
If you enjoy seafood with low food miles, this is the place for you - well worth the drive, just for the experience.
