“OH yum!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2013

We were there in December and thought we might not get fresh oysters, so we only order half a dozen original one to try. Oh my yummylicious god! There were big, fresh and juice. We went back to order more! One dozen mix (kilpatrick, original and grilled) and half a dozen original. The kilpatrick and grilled were smaller, definitely the original one was far better!

Definitely worth a visit if you're in American River. They have Marron and mussels too.

“You pay for Freshness & taste”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2013

Not cheap, but heck you are on an island and eating fresh oysters. Marron, Abalone and Oysters were all good here. We splashed out, didn't fill us up, but no regrets. Thanks.

“Very disappointing”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 March 2013 via mobile

We were extremely disappointed with our oysters. It was not oyster season so we had frozen oysters, the girl assured us they had a special way of bringing them back!!!!! They were tiny and not worth what we paid for them.

So sorry that you were disappointed with your oysters. We do use a leading edge freezing process to produce our Individually Quick Frozen oysters and the 'small' oysters freeze/thaw better than larger oysters. Our season, April to December is, unfortunately, the curse of an oyster farmer as everyone wants fresh in Summer just when Pacific Oysters are out of season! Hope you enjoyed the rest of your time on the Island.

“You have to try the smoked mussels!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 March 2013

Quirky little shack opposite the actual oyster sheds serving incredibly fresh Marron and oysters . When the oysters are in season they must be amazing as we had frozen ones and they were great. SA oyster season is April to November .
Its a husband and wife team - he farms and she runs the shop, it's no frills , very basic but you will learn a lot about oysters and Marron and they taste fantastic!
Well worth a little stop if you stay or visit American river.

“Don't be deceived by appearances”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2013

We had just arrived on KI and were quite hungry. Despite this, driving down to our accommodation at American River we drove past and back to this place. Didn't look the goods even in our famished state. However, hunger got the better of us, and just as well. This place is worth it. What you eat is what they have on the day. We were warned that the oysters were frozen and not up to their mark of freshness. Not much choice on how it was cooked - grilled - but that was fine. Fresh food simply but well prepared. Good humoured sass from the one staff member made it fun as well A very good introduction to KI.
