“Agreeable, functional hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 December 2011

We took a 1 bedroom apartment room and it was excellent: good size, all amenities, kitchenette was useful. Staff very friendly. Good location; easy walk to waterfont, supermarket 5 min walk away in Argyle St. Parking is in a separate building and it is a slight pain having to pay every time you come and go, get tikcet validated by hotel etc, but, in perspective, it was quite acceptable. The hotel is a short passageway away, under cover. We had our own breakfast in the room so cannot comment on the hotel breakfast.

Recommended as a modern, well equipped, friendly hotel.

This hotel is excellent in every aspect:
1. Location - very good location in the middle of town. True, Hobart city center is quite small so most hotels are in good location but this one is very central both to the shopping streets (2 min walks), harbor (5 min walk), aquatic center (5 min walk) and basically everywhere else.
2. Staff - young, energetic, always smiling and willing to help both in reception and in their Cafe.
3. Room quality - large, spacious, a large desk, large cabinet, and lots of room in the bathroom.
3. Quality of amenities - this is a new hotel and it shows. Everything works perfectly; there is a free Ethernet cable connection so if you have your laptop you're set (sadly no WI-FI but that is not so common in Australia).
I did not have a car but they have parking available for guests (I don't know the pricing for that).
The bar/restaurant is quite nice for coffee and small refreshments. I did not eat breakfast so can't comment on that.
A big bonus is a coin Laundromat located in the hotel - unlike other high end hotels which presume that if you pay nicely for a room you are willing to pay 15$ to have your dirty socks cleaned.
So not the cheapest hotel but worth every dollar. Something worth noticing - Hobart is a really nice city but it suffers from almost complete lack of anything to do after 2000-2100 so you might find yourself in your room more than planned and so a good room is quite important for that.

I stay here every time I stay in Hobart. The facilities are very modern, the breakfast is good value and the location is great.

Perfect for holiday or business.

A welcoming smile on the receptionist's face made all the difference after a very long drive. The signature bowl of apples at reception for guests was piled high. Our room was on the non view side of the building and an upgrade to Club room level with better views not forthcoming due to high occupancy. Next time we will consider the higher room rate cost to get the view!
Plenty of white fluffy towels, good bed linen, comfortable bed, and complimentary internet connection in room and wifi in reception. Appreciated bath in room. Second day some amenities in room not replaced.
Newspapers, magazines & tourist information available at lounge near reception. Same lounge had computers for guests to use.
Hotel is four & half stars (self rated) no evidence of porter therefore no help offered with luggage on arrival or exit but maybe it is possible on request.
Parking is in nearby public car park, not ideal but functional enough. You do pay for every exit but the rate is reduced for hotel clientele.
Short walk to popular Salamanca Place and Constitution Dock.

Room Tip: Room facing hospital emergency entrance was surprisingly quiet but boring view, do check which way r...

Hotel Collins was a wonderful place to call home for three days. it is only a few minutes to walk to the Salamanca markets and any where in the city. we ate breakfast most mornings in the cafe down stairs , the food was always perfect and the staff were always happy and friendly. our room was cleaned everyday and it was always immaculate. we had a great sleep every night and it was always nice a quiet. only thing was the parking was a bit annoying how you had to pay extra. they did give you a discounted rate which made it a little better but it was a extra cost . it cost us for three days of parking almost 30 dollars. but in saying that our car was in a safe place and it was easily accesable..

Located right near the retail heart of Hobart and a short walk from the waterfront I really enjoyed our three night stay here. Room was a little smaller than I thought, we stayed in 1005 on the top floor, mountain view was nice but the hospital was also in full view. We noted some street traffic noise in the morning peak hour even on the 10th floor. Modern, bright and clean, the room got a little hot with the curtains open when the sun was out. Five free movie channels were appreciated. Wireless Internet only available in lobby. Cafe was great, but closed 11-5 on weekends after breakfast trade finished. Woolworths down the road was handy and the airrporter redline airport shuttle was only $25 return pp. We ate at sapa rose vietnamese nearby, highly recommended.
