While this is budget accomodation, about $100 bucks a night, it is very clean, has all you need for a comfortable stay.. Good size room, great bathroom with great size frameless walk in shower, wall mounted large LCD TV , and the view is just fantastic from our room, full view of the wharf and cruise ships in dock, would be great vantage point for the NY eve fire works....
Wonderfully old fashioned but with updated bathroom and great Tv.
Staff were lovely and friendly, downstairs is great restaurant with room service if needed, separate gaming room if you are into that. Bottle shop attached and adequate parking.
Only a minute from cbd, and a couple of mins to Salamanca....

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 10, fantastic view...sunny, with high opening windows... Smokers will love the fac...

Very nice for budget accommodation, we found the service from the management and staff to be very helpful, the room was adequate, not flash but comfortable. New beds had been installed and new larger screen TV's were being installed while we were there. (We were lucky enough to get a room with a new one) My wife found using the attached Laundromat very entertaining. The view from the window was better than an expensive room on the upper floor of an upmarket CBD hotel. Off street parking was easily accessed. Our family member with a young toddler and baby were also well catered for. (Cot and 2nd room) Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Room 8 was real nice. Room 5 for family, cot available in extra room. Rooms 5 to 8 (at least) had gr...

My boyfriend and I travelled to Hobart during the Easter long weekend to attend a wedding at MONA and do some outdoor activities. I booked at the Marquis primarily for price and location, understanding that it was unlikely to be too flash. In all, it was OK.

Arriving on Good Friday, we had already been made aware that reception would be closed (the manager took time away from his family lunch to check us in). The room was clean, although housekeeping had neglected to provide towels and we had to go to the bottle shop to ask for them. The view towards the harbour was incredible! Really stunning.

As other reviewers have noted, it's in a hilly area of Hobart which could present problems if you have special mobility needs. But if you're in average to reasonable fitness levels, it's fine. Only a 15-20 minute walk to the CBD and waterfront.

We stayed for three nights and had a good sleep each night. I think the first two nights had the motel fairly unoccupied but the last night fairly full, as we heard a bit of noise from other rooms on the last night (showers, doors opening etc) but not disturbingly so.

We chose to forego the dining facilities in-house, preferring to eat out around Hobart. The in-house options looked pretty unappealing.

There seemed to be a leak coming from either the toilet or the shower/bath (unsure), creating an unpleasant puddle on the floor; but when we reported this to the friendly housekeeping staff member, instead of promising to actually follow it up (maybe get it fixed!) she instead offered an extra towel to mop up the water. Helpful but not as helpful as I'd hoped. Also the ironing board didn't work (annoying when you want to iron clothes to wear to a wedding), neither did the clock radio. But generally it was OK.

I think the value for money was all right without it being the bargain of the century. I might stay here again but I think I'd probably look elsewhere too.

I selected this hotel based on the reasonable price. The map showed it not far from downtown so I could walk. But the map didn't show the very steep hill I had to go up to get back to the hotel. Very standard, nothing bad but nothing impressive with the rooms. The restaurant is closed Mondays and Tuesdays (guess which two nights I was there!) So no breakfast for me. It is located in a quite residential area, and the view from the street is a nice overlook of Hobart.

Don't go here if you only normally stay at the Ritz, but for your average punter this is a nice authentic Aussie find. Rooms a bit of a mish-mash of styles, and not particularly attractive, but everything worked, the bed was fine and I don't recall any smoke smells. Nice views too. The bar downstairs, though evidently not to the liking of some other reviewers, was again authentic, providing pool, wide range of beers, friendly bar staff, gambling options, and several TVs showing sports (they kindly put tennis on the biggest one when we asked). It was not in the least bit threatening, despite being full of locals on the Saturday night we were there. Completely shut on Sunday evening though, which was a disappointment.

Admittedly it is a bit out of the centre of town, and on some roads into the centre the steepness, whilst navigable, take your breath away! Stayed here as more centrall locate hotels were basically full up. Pleased we did though. Actually more fun than the sanitised more pricey Mercure we stayed in in Launceston a few days later.

I really liked Hobart. I would describe it as almost opulent, some of the bars are really very swish inside - providing a nice contrast to the hotel! Variety is great.

This hotel looks nothing like the photos on the website. I booked with high hopes of a wonderful stay here, but when I was shown the room, it was horrible. The bed was so uncomfortable, the room was not clean and the air smelled strongly of smoke even though the hotel website had stated it was a non-smoking room. The Manager was very unhelpful and refused to put us in another room. The gaming lounge downstairs is trashy and noisy. If you want a good nights sleep in a clean room with helpful staff, this is not the place to stay. Considering the condition of the place, it was massively overpriced.

Room Tip: I would recommend that you don't stay here at all.
