At Eleven - La Petite Maison
Ranked #13 of 28 Hobart B&B and Inns
Reviewed 12 December 2012

This is a real FIND. Sometimes when you book a place you get a comfortable but small room, or an impersonal modern apartment. At Eleven, La Petite Maison, you actually have an entire little cottage all to yourself. From the entry corridor through to the bedroom, the owner has decorated with warmth, style and considerable charm. The real highlight, I believe is the private, sun filled French style courtyard garden with water feature and fruit trees....just for guests to use. It's what sets this property apart from others. The bed is super comfortable with crisp linen, the towels are large, white and fluffy as are the robes in the bedroom. A large sitting room equipped with books and DVD's, a comfy lounge and kitchenette provides everything you need for a short or extended stay. An added bous is that Instead of a jarful of nasty instant coffee sachets, there is a whiz bang Nescafe machine with milk frother and a wide range of blends to choose from. The location is ideal in upmarket Sandy Bay. We walked into town via Battery Point each day. The host, Karen is warm and welcoming; a wealth of information about Tasmania .Highly recommended.

My husband and I spent the last 3 days of a 20 day self drive tour of Tasmania at At Eleven and it was heaven. Like stepping into a dear friend's home who had left the key and said help yourselves to everything. Every possible little extra for comfort was provided and I kept noticing more little touches as each day passed. Not just a hairdryer, but straigheners. Loads of towels!COTTON BUDS in the bathroom. Handsoap and proper dishwashing liquid - not those awful sachets or tiny slivers of soap. Gorgeous brand bath gel, shampoo and even body and hand/cuticle cream. A torch beside the bed. Knee rugs to cosy up on the lovely COMFORTABLE lounge that had heaps of cushions. Terrific brekkie pack, jams, honey, a whole loaf of bread, a proper full size REAL milk, big apple juice, a big yummy yoghurt tub. Whole bar of Chocolate! A nespresso machine and packs of various Pods. Green tea, herbal tea - all sorts of teas. Condiments. (No extra charge for any of these items). Gloves to use for washing up. There was a proper computer and keyboard in the bedroom with full internet access. So simple to use. Bed was very comportable. The weather was cold while we were there but the heaters made the place cosy. For us, with the car it was a perfect location. Just minutes drive into the city which is a doddle to get around. Karen, the hostess lives behind the cottage and is a fabulous lady who is very helpful and kind. Would thoroughly recommend this gorgeous little cottage.

A little home away from home... 'At Eleven' was a delight the moment we first stepped through the door, and continued to be the perfect base for (and place to unwind in between) visiting all the sights, restaurants and surrounding regions. A nice walk through the surrounding hills and streets to the cafes, bars and ferries of Salamanca/Battery Point - or a very easy car ride. We really appreciated the many extra touches Karen provides - organic juice and supplies in the kitchenette, the clawfoot tub and great range of Sukin products in the bathroom, the well-stocked book and DVD library, hot waterbottles! - all so very thoughtful. Thank you and we hope to be back one day!

A beautful place to stay in Hobart. At Eleven is well located being close to all Hobart has to offer. Very well appointed and spacious. Loved the courtyard with the BBQ. Everything you could need is supplied - even Internet access. The hostess is welcoming and very helpfull. Thanks for a wonderful experience.

Stepping into the door of @11 you feel its immediate charm. It's character and warmth is defined by the array of personalised and hospitable touches this place offers. It was exactly what we were hoping for.

A well appointed welcoming lounge. The cosy comfort of gas heating and the wall of books surrounding the television had me feet up revelling in some good holiday reading. The selection of DVDs, CDs, iPod facility were fully appreciated in the evening with a glass of local wine when weary from a day of wanderings.

The kitchenette is small yet had everything we needed. We could have easily cooked a simple meal in this space although the allure of dining out was our preferred holiday treat. We did opt one night for a home delivered indian meal that was delicious and a welcome change to heading out on our five night stay.

The bathroom is spacious. The claw foot bath tempts you to indulge. The shower gives you plenty of hot water, towels are in abundance and the thoughtful touches like make up removal cotton buds, hair, hand and skin products are all beautifully presented in this pampering space.

The asian influenced bedroom with a water feature in the adjoining courtyard sets a very peaceful atmosphere. We slept exceptionally well here. No noisy hotel neighbours to bother you here.

The owner who lives at the rear of this fabulous abode is friendly and welcoming and not at all intrusive. They understand (as being well seasoned travellers themselves) what makes a holiday pleasurable and their Petit Masion is well packaged for a blissful getaway.

We plan to return and highly recommend it as a perfect home base for your Hobart holiday.

I couldn't be more impressed with At Eleven. Everything is utterly perfect, from the gorgeous Parisian themed sitting room (which doubles as the second bedroom should you require more than the queen bed in the rear bedroom) to the sumptuous array of products made available for your use in the beautifully appointed and spacious bathroom. I'm quite fussy (okay I'm very fussy) and if I'm impressed, you will be too.

Kitchen facilities are minimal and a little cramped but I was thrilled with the range of supplies made available to us: fresh bread, local Tasmanian butter, jams and spreads, yoghurt, Nespresso coffee machine and pods, a range of cereals and milk. There is a pie-warmer style oven and microwave but serious cooking is probably not what you'd want to do here.

Sandy Bay is a quiet and leafy location, close to everything. There are plenty of local restaurants and cafés. The accommodation is in the front of the owners home but it is completely separate - a key-lock with pin code is provided for entry so there is no need to trouble the owners for anything but they are nearby should you need them.

Wifi is free and a computer is available for your use. A reasonable sized (32") is in the front room and gets all free to air channels with excellent reception. After travelling the east coast and not once getting a clear picture I was beginning to wonder whether poor reception was part of the Tasmanian way of life.

All in all, At Eleven (La Petit Maison) is a marvelous pied-à-terre for your Hobart explorations. You will not be disappointed. I would recommend it is best suited to couples who want more space, personality, charm and amenity than what the local hotels have to offer.
