THIS PLACE HAS BECOME SO WELL KNOWN FOR ITS EXCELLENT VALUE ,EXCELLEN\T FOOD, EXCELLENT AMBIENCE, that we can seldom get a table here anymore. Hey you lot, this is our pub. it has the best meals in town, and the price is so good we can go there at least once a week, but only if you stay away !!

“Great value”

Wish I found the Shamrock Hotel earlier. The food was great, I had the roast dinner for $10, it came with four vegetables, lovely gravy and mint jelly. I will be eating here again if I return to Hobart.

“The plan that works !”
Reviewed 5 March 2014

For old times sake we dropped in at an Inn on Davey street on the hottest day last week. It was almost 5 pm and we wondered why it was empty. We soon learned why. My wife ordered a cider and i a Pint of Heinecken on tap. The bar maid who served us was devoid of humour and took surly attitude to new heights. My wifes cider was fine but after one sip of my lager and i almost gagged. It was not just off or suffering from unclean pipe syndrome; it actually stank like an old rotten drain. This would have the Dutch Master Brewers turning in their graves. I chose a 10 once of some other tasteless ice cold coloured fizz and tried to enjoy myself. We asked for menus and when we saw the prices of the bar meals we drank up and sallied up the road to the Shamrock where i ordered a bottle of white wine [Marleborough] for $29; a T-bone Steak Med. rare and a pasta dish for my wife. The barman was pleasant and knowledgeable and brought the wine to us in an ice bucket with a generous slurry of icey water. The glasses were sparkley clean and within a few mi nutes our food arrived and it was excellent. By the way i forgot to say that even at this early hour on a week day the dining room was booked solid and we only just got a table thanks to the generosity of a single punter who offered up his table for us.
My wifes pasta proved fantastic and my steak came to me as ordered; the chips were the usual standard which is crispy and piping hot and the salad was very good with a good french dressing. The mushroom sauce was also adequate but the kicker is that this lovely meal costs only $10 The other thing we love about the Shamrock is that although to serves up top class food and has a pleasant busy vibe it is not up itself and does not call itself a Gastro pub; though it could ! Well done to the owner and his staff; You saved our evening ! Thank you very much

Reviewed 2 February 2014

i went to the shamrock with a few friends one night and it was one of the best meals i have ever eaten!! the staff were all so polite and friendly!! there was such a variety of food to choose from all at the lowest prices plus they even had keno!! i had a chicken pepperoni parmi which was was cooked to perfection and the chips were delightful, my friends had a roast which was of a generous size, a seafood marinara which looked very scrumptious, a shamrock burger which came out looking very appetising, a rump steak which was cooked perfectly and a mixed grill which was HUGE!! i don't know how any one could eat all and it was at such a bargain price!! my experience at the shamrock was one of the best!! the meals were enough to fill you and then some, the prices were so unbelievably cheap, the food was delicious i don't know who would not enjoy it and the staff were all so delightful!! would highly recommend this hotel
