We had a short stay at the Grand Chancellor Hotel in Hobart and decided to take advantage of one of their packages that included a Harbour View room and it was absolutely worth it. The views were so spectacular that we did not close our curtains throughout our whole stay just so when we looked out the windows we had an opportunity to enjoy the view. The location is excellent with easy access and the ability to walk around the area. The room was brilliant, comfortable, and we really enjoyed our stay here. Cannot recommend it enough

Room Tip: If they are available and you can afford it, always go for the Harbour View room....

There's not that many large hotels to choose from in Hobart and as this is more central (and apparently better) than the Wrestpoint, the rooms are a little overpriced. It's not that it's the most expensive (there are quite a few great looking boutique properties around), it just feels like you should get a bit more for your money. One really annoying factor for me was the wifi, free but with a very small download limit - I couldn't even send and receive a few work emails and ended up having to hot spot. When will Aussie hotels join the rest of the world and provide free (and useable) wifi?
The property is in a great location, right across from the harbour and a short walk to Salamance (home to some great restaurants and bars).
Check in was fuss free and I was given a large room with a great view across the harbour. The view alone makes it a memorable hotel room. The lobby bar was well stocked with some great local drinks and good service and advice. I recommend the Van Diemens Land Pale Ale, or any Tassie Whisky. I can't comment on the breakfast unfortunately as I was at a conference at another venue.

Had a weekend getaway in Hobart and chose this hotel based on location and views and was not disappointed. We arrived early in the morning stored our bags and walked to Salamanca markets which was a short stroll away. We received a phone call just after lunch that our room was ready. Excellent customer service from each staff member we encountered. We had a room on the top floor with harbour views which were stunning. The gorgeous sunny day just added to the views. The location was great with walking distance to so many restaurants, ferries and other attractions and a taxi rank outside hotel. The buffet breakfast was good at the restaurant. The bar was great just to unwind and enjoy a drink and the views. Would definately stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose high floor with harbour views

Have stayed in this hotel on 4 different occasions for between 2 and 4 nights. Rooms good size with very comfortable beds. Harbour view rooms are best and buffet breakfast is good. A bit overpriced though. Look out for Groupon etc deals. Will definitely stay here again.

Stayed two nights. Room adequate with good view. No lace curtains on windows so privacy compromised. WiFi expensive. Bathroom OK, but impossible to have a shower without flooding the bathroom because of silly half door on bath. Only one restaurant. Staff helpful and friendly. All considered overpriced

My wife and I stayed at the Grand Chancellor again for the 4th + time since we first started visits to Hobart. As always were were greeted by friendly staff and were given a beautiful room overlooking the harbor. Views were amazing, bed was comfortable and room was spotless. The hotel is so central to everything and walking distance to Salamanca Place which is a must see on Saturdays. Great places to eat nearby and the bar downstairs is a nice place to relax and unwind. Our hotel of choice every time we are in Hobart will definitely come again

Room Tip: Corner rooms have great views of Mount Wellington and the harbour

This was my first visit to the Grand Chancellor and it was all I had hoped it would be.
The location is fantastic as everything is within walking distance.
We had our car valet parked as the prices made it an easy decision and made negotiating Hobart's love of one way streets that much easier.
We had booked prior so check in took only minutes and staff was very helpful with our luggage.
The rooms were everything you'd expect from a hotel like this.
My only gripes were that the shower drain couldn't handle the water pressure the shower gave out so you needed to ensure you had adequate towelling on the tiles to ensure you didn't flood your bathroom (and make using the toilet that much more difficult!). This was because it has an open shower rather than a closing shower door.
I'd suspected it was just mine but I checked with my friends room and he suffered the same fate - but without towelling in advance!
The other issue is if the above room showers at an unusual time, you will hear it quite loudly from your bed. It's not a massive issue and showers generally don't last hours but you could be in trouble if you're below the honeymoon suit. :)
The staff were friendly and always eager to help and the price is fine.
I'll stay again.

Room Tip: The harbour view is fantastic and is a great way to start your morning.
