The reception service was excellent, the rooms were comfortable and nicely refurbished but the restaurant left a lot to be desired.

Confusion ensued when I asked for poached eggs with tomato and spinach for breakfast. Initially I was told we don't have spinach but then they were able to find some. By the time it arrived the buffet was shut so getting a glass of iced water required a special request. Asking for a second cup of long-black coffee brought the response "Sorry sir, there are 10 in front of you. It will take some time."

Not really a property for the business traveller based on this experience but hopefully it was a one-off. Excellent location on the river.

I stayed here for 3 nights during winter, on my first trip to Tazy.

I stayed in a room on an upper floor (6th I think - although the actual floor numbers don't seem to match the number of levels). Room was quite spacious with two double beds. Flat screen TV with local channels and some cable channels. Decor was fresh and classic. Overall quite clean and comfortable. We had water views which were amazing, day and night! We booked a non-serviced room ($10 cheaper per night), but the room was still serviced.

The hotel itself is located in an area with a lot of one way streets, so it helps to know where you're going to get into the underground car park - the entry to which is that the rear of the property. The lifts do not go down there though so you have to come up the stairs and walk through the lobby to get to the lift. Valet parking is available though. Staff were polite and efficient. Broadband was available in room from memory, but for our needs we elected to use the one of the computers and printer in the lobby for a small fee.

The hotel is witihn walking distance to a lot of the places you might want to go within Hobart itself including Salamanca place, and the CBD - including many restaurants and takeaway places. We ate upstairs at Mures (on the water opposite the hotel) one evening. Pretty good, good service, decent food, great views - but overall pretty over rated, particularly the food - although my desert was divine.

Also, Hobart is quite central to a lot of tourist attractions in southern Tasmania including hiking trails, nature walks, historical sites, breweries, etc. I'd recommend staying there rather than closer to Port Arthur if you planning on visiting there, unless you plan to be in Port Arthur for a number of days. I'd also recommend stopping in on the Tasmanian Devil place in Taranna on the way down to Port Arthur to see the Devils and handfeed the Forester Kangaroos.

This is a good choice if you're looking for a good, reliable hotel without taking the risk of trying a boutique hotel which can be a hit-or-miss experience. It won't wow you with anything but it will not disappoint you with anything either - everything is at a good but not brilliant level. Having said that, while walking around we didn't see a lot of places that fit that bill so would definitely recommend this place. Location is great being right on the waterfront. Hobart is a lovely place and you'll end up spending a lot of time outside than inside your rooms anyways.

Excellent service. Very clean. Good facilities - children loved the pool and spa area.
Location opposite the harbour is sensational - make sure you request a room with a view of the harbour.

The only real 4 star hotel in Tasmania. Great views of the harbour from the rooms at the front. The restaurant is fine breakfast particularly good but everythink is pricey here. $27 for a full self service breakfast and even more difficult to swallow $27.50 per day for internet connection! The rooms are of a good size with flat screen and desk also good size bathroom and walk in shower. Newspapers are free! Service was good.

This hotel has such a great location, friendly staff and spacious rooms that the small things don't seem to matter that much. Sure, if you are picky about the design on your bedspread, you might have something to whinge about, but all in all, a great hotel in a great city. Top pick if you are visiting for Taste of Tassie festival, as it is literally a stumble back to the hotel!

In windy weather, the windows do shake a little and if you are a light sleeper, probably not recommended, but the heavy curtains cut out most of the sound and my partner and I slept like babies. Friendly maintenance and front desk staff.

Parking is easy, but not free. A short stroll to many great cafes and restaurants in the area, be sure to try T 42degrees for very quick service and an extensive wine, beer, spirits and cider list.

Staying here made our trip to Hobart quite enjoyable!

This is one of those 1980s mega hotel chain type places with no soul and personality, which is perfectly acceptable, but I can't accept how tatty and dated it is - not for $200/night plus parking. Everything in this place is old-school and worn out. I was completely grossed out to find a discarded food wrapper of some kind next to the spare blanket in the cupboard - it remained there for the duration of our stay, so that tells you a little something about the housekeeping. On the upside, the location is wonderful - right on the harbour and the views from the front of the hotel are great (we were at the back - not so great). There is a pool which is why I booked this place, but it was nothing special and felt kind of dirty.
