We are regular visitors to Hobart and over the years have stayed in a wide variety of accommodation - everything from self-catering cottages to B&Bs and big hotels. On this occasion we chose to stay at The Old Woolstore because there was a good rate on offer via lastminute.com, and the TripAdvisor reviews were pretty good. Happy to say we weren't disappointed.

The Old Woolstore is located right behind the Grand Chancellor Hotel which is opposite the Hobart waterfront and in easy walking distance to Salamanca. We had a Studio Apartment - a spacious room with kitchenette facilities, a small sofa and a little dining table with two chairs. A big bonus was the washer and dryer in the bathroom, complete with a sachet of washing powder. Furnishings and fiittings were very good quality, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The whole place was super-clean and there was a good selection of free movies in addition to free-to-air and pay-TV channels.

Staff were very friendly and service was good. We accidentally broke a wine glass and when we called down to Reception they sent somebody up to vacuum up the shards and replace the wine glass within 5 minutes.

A couple of minor complaints. Our room had a small window and also a sliding glass door with a tiny juliet balcony. It was nice to have the option of fresh air but you couldn't have the window or the door open for any length of time because of the traffic noise. We didn't eat in the hotel but based on photos from the website and the description of the Baa Bar in the room literature, we decided to have a drink in the bar before heading out for dinner. From the website/literature it looked like it was a stylish place. Unfortunately there is no atmosphere and it's not very nicely furnished. There's a large flat screen TV up one end of the room, which when we arrived had the cricket on at a very loud volume. We asked the barman to turn it down but in any event, because the cricket was on, a group of about 8 blokes arrived and sat in front of the screen loudly debating the game. I don't object to this in principle, but my partner and I expected to have a nice cocktail perhaps with some music playing in the background. I didn't expect a sports bar.

Overall however we enjoyed our stay and felt it was good value. We'd happily stay at The Old Woolstore again.

Had a 2 night stay at the Old Woolstore in a 1 bedroom apartment. The bed was comfortable and the rooms were quite. A TV in the bedroom would be good and a updated TV in the living area would be better. The flooring in the bathroom could be replaced as it was cracked along the shower.
On the whole it was a nice and a good place to stay if you like to have room to move.

I have had the privelige of staying at the Old Woolstore on several occasions, Solo for business, with collegues for business and for leisure holidays with family.
The accomodation has never failed to meet a great standard of cleanliness and pleasant atmosphere. The staff continually make you feel welcome, and respected as guests in the Hotel.
I have eaten at the resteraunt on several occasions, the meals have always been as expected and well presented.
I highly reccomend The Old Woolstore as a comfortable, safe, clean environment for any travelling needs.

We love the Woolstore - friendly and generous staff, quiet rooms, lots of space to spread out, great kitchenette facilities (full kitchen in larger apartments), quality furnishings, efficient room cleaning/servicing, comfortable beds, free movies on TV, lots of towels, nice breakfast in the hotel ($17 full buffet - great!), yummy room service in the middle of the night, and a good location with free parking.

We have stayed there numerous times, for business and leisure, and will keep going back. We particularly like their studio rooms, and their exec spa apartments are huge (lovely big corner spa next to the bed). The recent refurbishment suits the hotel - rooms are much more stylish and gone are the motel-style 'splashes of colour to hide everything' bedspreads - the new furnishings are lovely.

Restaurants, shops, galleries, the Saturday market, Theatre Royal, etc are all within close walking distance and reception staff have huge umbrellas to lend guests when it's raining. And the Baaa Bar in the foyer is great for a relaxing drink. We would recommend the Woolstore (and regularly do!) without hesitation.

Booked to stay to go to symphony concert across the street. Studio apartment booked and it was comfortaby large. Ordered room service and not only was the food good, but came at a reasonable price. Hotel bar is popular and cosy. Breakfast was fine. There is no wireless internet on the upper floors, and it being Tasmania, 3G mobile broadband reception is terrible. Not even the Telstra mobile modem worked.

My advice is to book directly with the hotel - their staff do an excellent job of trying to accomodate your particular needs/preferences and the rate is much the same as going through an online agent.
