This hotel was luxurious, casual, elegant and comfortable. The art was fantastic and the food was delicious.

Everything about it was great. I can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: I loved the attic room

Thanks to JC for using all the adjectives I usually do when talking to friends and colleagues about Islington; comfortable, elegant, casual, luxurious. The ability to produce an attentively relaxed guest relations experience is a rare almost unique feature of the hotel, and Chef Jonathan Alexander’s menu is consistently producing out the type of unpretentious dishes I want to see more of in hotel restaurants. Apparently I’m not the only one.

From the moment we drove in the private gates this hotel surpassed our expectations. The staff were lovely, the setting so romantic and the room was immaculate. Too tired to venture back in to Hobart we decided to stay for dinner (cooked by the in house chef) where we sampled mussels, lamb and an outstanding seafood chowder. Our garden room had a complimentary mini bar, bath products by Aesop and the latest Marie Clare magazine as well as a fresh vase of roses that had been picked from the gardens just before our arrival. Before Thursday I never knew that this hotel existed - now I don't know how I will be able to stay in any other accommodation in Hobart again. Try it. I promise you won't regret it!

Room Tip: Dine in. The food is as good as you will find at the top notch dining establishments in Hobart.

The Islington offers a unique experience to travellers visiting Hobart. From the georgian facade to the luxurious public rooms it is an absolue delight. My favourite space is the wonderful conservatory area sipping a glass of wine in front of the fire looking out at Mt. Wellington in the distance. Added to this luxury is a wonderful chef who provides the most delicious fare. Lovely bedrooms complete the sense of contentment to be enjoyed at this great Hotel.

The conservatory is my favourite space also; winter, summer, anytime the room’s ambient temperature is ingeniously regulated by way of underfloor heating in winter and temperature controlled louvers to create a cooling breeze in summer.

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of my 50th birthday celebrations. We Loved this hotel!!
It is so stylish, comfortable and luxurious, it is hard to leave. Our room overlooked the garden and Mt Wellington. The food was a sensation, the chef is excellent and the staff are so welcoming. loved the artwork and the sumptious rooms to relax in with a port after dinner.
We also had a night at the Henry James- good, but if you really want a treat, you can't beat this place!!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel on our wedding night. The hotel is luxurious and very comfortable with just about any desire catered for. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the breakfast spot on. The gardens are lovely and pleasant for a short stroll.

It’s nice to see that locals choose Islington as a special getaway as well as those from further afield. None of our rooms have a 2 night minimum stay as some boutique properties do so we’re perfect for an anniversary, wedding night or birthday.

We only had one night at the gorgeous Islington but it had me wishing for more!!! It is out of the way (5 minutes drive from the busy downtown area) but not at all inconvient if you have rented a car. The hotel is a converted historic home that is full of exquisite and eclectic art as well as fine antiques cheerfully mixed with sleek modern fixtures and furishings. The rooms (only 11) are huge with some of the best bathrooms I think you will find in Australia. I loved that the amenities were included (as they are tacked on nickle and dime-ing you to death in Australia). The dinners were exceptional and the brekky was also wonderful! Total white glove service!!!!

Lovely comments, thank you. I agree that Australians continually tack unnecessary and hidden charges to a bill more often than is strictly polite. When we offer ‘all inclusive’ we mean it! Full cooked breakfast, barista coffee, non alcoholic or full mini bar depending on room selection, unlimited internet access, secure parking, we’ll even do a load of non-delicate washing for you. Not only that there are always cookies, and fruit on hand and Joe’s morning muffins have everyone asking for the recipe. I think a hotel should be there to look after your needs as a given, not as an add on.

Gorgeous building and garden. Great service. Makes you feel right at home. Food quality excellent - enjoyed both breakfast and dinner there. A bit further out from city centre but definitely worth every penny.

Thanks to an obviously well travelled and experienced ‘tripadvisor ‘, we appreciate everyone who takes time to comment but especially those who enjoy the areas within our hotel we take particular pride like ‘excellent food’ and ‘making you feel right at home’ with ‘great service’.
