“Great short stay”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

Had a fabulous time here, the staff were awesome and if you do have the pleasure to stay here have dinner here as well, Joe made us a fabulous dinner and was way better than the degustation at Ethos, that was amateur in comparison.
If I had one quibble, I thought the attic room was a bit small but very cosy all the same.

Room Tip: Attic rooms a tad small

I'm so pleased you enjoyed our brand new spring a la carte menu, Jonathan has crafted some wonderful dishes for our guests showcasing the best Tasmania has to offer in the spring. We hope you will be back soon to try our summer menu.

My wife tells me I should write "perfect in every way". Hard to argue with her, really.

This stunning boutique hotel makes you feel like you're staying at the country manor of some generous friend (a friend who has premium taste and is well-resourced). Not in a weird way - the service is attentive but very discrete so you will be left alone if that is what you want.

We highly recommend staying in for dinner.

It is located a slightly out of the centre of town (it took us about 25 minutes to walk - all downhill - to Salamanca Place from the hotel). However, if you like walking or if you have a car or are happy to get cabs, then the location is not a problem. Really, why would you want to leave anyway?

Room Tip: The Wellington Room, appropriately, has a wonderful view of Mount Wellington - we awoke to a stunnin...

Thank you so much for your kind feedback. It's so lovely when our guests feel at home, this is exactly the type of experience we strive to create here at Islington. All the serenity of a luxurious country home, and yet only a five minute taxi ride into town - if you can drag yourself away that is!

We have stayed at many lovely hotels around the world and recently stayed for a total of 4 nights at the islington, whilst it is a lovely boutique hotel we weren't overwhelmed with the stay. Food was good without being great and a little limited in the choices. Given the cost of accomodation i thought that the expense of the food and wine was a little cheeky and was pushed far too hard.

I would explain the service as relaxed rather than first class (i.e ordered a cheese platter and had to go and get it myself from the kitchen) however a highlight was Ashley's service and attention he was fantastic. Lovely but overrated based upon our experience.

Room Tip: Garden Room was lovely.

Part of our ethos at Islington is to use only the best of the marvellous local produce available and this doesn't always come cheap, especially the handmade Bruny Island cheeses. However, we do appreciate your feedback and have revised some of the pricing of our menu as a result.

My girlfriend and I had the most wonderful weekend staying at the Islington. It was so nice to relax in such a superb hotel. The room we stayed in was absolutely stunning from the design, the furnishing and the heated floors. We really enjoyed having pre-dinner cocktails in the perfectly decorated sitting rooms. We were also extremely glad that we chose to have dinner at the hotel as the food was absolutely amazing.

Finally, while the hotel was very luxurious and elegant, the staff at Islington were incredibly welcoming, friendly and warm. There was no pretentiousness at all. The friendliness and service made the weekend even more pleasant. We look forward to staying at the Islington again!

I'm so pleased you were able to dine in with us and that you enjoyed your experience. We love guests to treat the house as their own and relax in the sitting rooms with a drink, and an Islington cocktail at that - what could be better?

First time in Australia (Specially Tasmania).
This was a amazing and great experience for me to stay in this lovely hotel.
The hotel foods were amazing good.
The staffs always smiled to me and asked me what i need and where i want to visit.
iPad2 was provided in the room (very Convenience PLUS FREE OF CHARGE)
PLUS FREE WIFI (NOT MANY Australia hotels can provide free wifi which i don't know why?)
The environment and services of this hotel is much better than Part Hyatt and Grand Hyatt in Melbourne (which i was stay there before i fly to Tasmania and before i fly back to Hong Kong from Melbourne).
The price is very reasonable regarding what they provided all the services to me.
Personally, I do traveling a lot but this is very Impressive hotel which i never experience in my life before.
Thank you guys and see you all soon!
Good hotel, Good people, Good heart and Good foods!
Cheers
Cal.

Room Tip: Basement Room is the best with outside garden. Try to book the hotel room as fast as possible. Roo...

We were in Tasmania recently from 2/7/2013 to 10/7/2013. We had two separate stays at the Islington. We can't say enough about the service and the hospitality extended by Thomas, Celine and the team at this fabulous venue. There was an issue of the Conservatory being a bit cold one night, and next we knew, Thomas had gone out a purchased the best heater I've seen in a long time. Kudos to you Thomes, that's customer service in spades. Joe did a great job in the kitchen and I have to say that the service was as good as we have experienced anywhere we have travelled in the world. Can't wait to return although business commitments dictate that this won't happen until early March 2014. Thanks once again guys, any names I haven't mentioned I doo apologise as everyone was fantastic. See you again in March
Warm Regards
Bill and Cherry Moore

Thanks so much Bill and Cherry, hopefully we won't need the heater when you return in March, but this is Tasmania so you never know. There's nothing we like better than being able to make guests comfortable and thanks to your feedback we now have a fantastic new heater - everyone has remarked on how well it does the job in the Conservatory! See you soon.

This was a really great experience. Once inside the gate you are treated like royalty, nothing is too much trouble and you have run of the house to sit and wander as you like exploring the beautiful rooms and very impressive collection of art, furniture and artefacts. We encourage you to do the "art tour" on the in-room iPad, going from room to room and soaking up the collection. Many years building this collection is not let down in any way by the luxurious guest suites, bedding, bathrooms and the lovely grounds and building. Not to mention the all inclusive mini bar and top quality trimmings. This is an impressive place to stay. It does cost serious money to stay here but it's a seriously good hotel. The farm style kitchen and lovely modern dining room are really great. You can order what you want for breakfast. Dinner was lovely but need more vegetarian and seafood options. Overall a special place to stay and in the spring or summer it would be something else again.

Islington is a "house of stories" and wandering through the four gorgeous public rooms, iPad in hand, is the perfect way to unwind. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your experience and do hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the warmer months when many of our local seafoods are at their peak.
