“Wonderful Find”
Reviewed 15 October 2013 via mobile

We have just had two really great days here. Can't find a thing to fault the staff were just great, couldn't do enough made you feel very welcomed. The hotel is a real find. Grounds beautiful, room fresh, clean and secluded. Ours looked out into a fabulous garden.
Meal on Monday an Tuesday they said were light. My goodness me they were great and if that is light we will have to come back to see what a" normal" is! Breakfasts were super.
We will come back for sure, still need to explore the history in the front room.
10 out of 10!

Sometimes it's lovely not to have to go out and our Monday and Tuesday evening "light supper" menu, prepared by chef Sarah, is a great casual dining option. With four public spaces full of art, you may need more than one return visit to take it all in - and to try the a la carte menu as well! We look forward to welcoming you both soon and thank you for your kind words.

We were wowed from the moment the gates opened to let us into the property. Absolutely beautiful and intimate. The hotel is built around a lovingly restored Regency house. You will feel the history walking through the front doors. Excellent and thoughtful staff. My wife inquired about the name of a flower in the garden and we found a bouquet of it in our room later that evening complete with genus and species name. It with It is walking distance from the city centre but the quiet and peaceful common rooms and conservatory makes you feel as though you shouldn't leave the grounds. Wonderful little service touches throughout our stay. This hotel is great for a couples getaway.

Thank you for such lovely feedback on your recent stay. I'm pleased you enjoyed the bouquet of Ceanothus and passed this on to the staff member who arranged it. The experience of peace and quiet in a luxurious yet intimate environment is one of the nicest things about Islington, and as you point out, it's all within walking distance of the city. I hope we see you again next time you're in Tasmania.

A very elegant mix of older and modern Hobart .Very clever additions to the old building allows the addition of a number of very well appointed modern and roomy bedrooms. The garden was peaceful and very well maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful, bordering on the overfriendly . Unfortunately the hotel is in a way a perfect illustration as to why Australian tourism is in the doldrums although the breakfast was excellent, dinner and the wine list was pedestrian -too large helpings and a pretty ordinary wine selection by the glass. The whole was overpriced by a large margin when compared with similar establishments in other countries.

Room Tip: Get a room in the new part of the hotel..

I'm pleased you enjoyed the serenity of our Garden Rooms, spring is a great time to see the garden at its best. Our chef Jonathan has taken your comments about the menu on board and we will be looking at ways we can expand our by the glass offering.

We were very excited about staying here and it is certainly excellent in many ways. We appreciated the serenity of driving in those big gates and the history of the home and the gorgeous views from our heritage room straight out to Mt Wellington.

Joe the chef was a real highlight - simply stand out! His brekkie and dinner were off the charts excellent! And he's laidback, friendly and makes you feel at home. Brilliant. Ashley is another staff member who went the extra mile and we loved. He was truly superb.

The worse thing out beautiful hotels is when you get the faintest whiff of pretention from staff. Joe and Ash? Perfect. The other staff really sullied the experience unfortunately! I won't name names, but service was wooden and aloof and almost verging on slightly sour; very forced politeness. They were entirely AGREEABLE but it seemed rather forced and unconvincing.

Also, obviously it's not a cheap place but $25 for a Negroni? Like, seriously?

The place has so much going for it and I'd still recommend it and hope you get staff as warm and welcoming and real as Joe and Ashley. Everyone is raving about Selina on here; we didn't get to meet her unfortunately but did deal with her a couple of times prior to arrival and she was superb and so helpful and lovely.

Thank you your kind words about Joe and Ashley - I'm sorry I didn't have the chance to meet you during your stay. I agree that pretentiousness has no place in the hotel industry, especially not at Islington. We do pride ourselves on our friendly, approachable yet discreet service standards and I think this is reflected in the majority of our Trip Advisor reviews. We do take your feedback very much to heart and I do apologise if you felt a failure on our part spoiled your stay. Further service training for all the staff has been scheduled and we hope you will return to us soon.

Not too far from the city centre is this absolute gem of a hotel. The grounds are immaculate and the fit out was lovely. Selina and the staff were wonderfully welcoming and the accommodation was top notch. Seriously wonderful service and the dining crew were amazing! Thanks Joe, Ash, Megan and Sara for the lovely dining experiences!

From the moment you pulled up at the door, Nothing was ever a problem. Tea and breakfast were of a great standard. The decor very homely. Lovely sitting by the fire place with a glas of wine. Management and staff really couldnt do enough for you.

The must be one of the best places we have ever stayed. The service was exemplary, nothing was too much trouble and the staff really seemed to enjoy service us. The room was outstandingly comfortable. We especially enjoyed the stunning architecture of the observatory extension where a superb breakfast was provided each day, cooked to order. The works of art around the place are simply stunning and add to the feeling of a private house. We liked the touch of our own iPad in the room.

Room Tip: Take the signature room if you ca.
