I returned yesterday from a four night stay at this hostel.
As a first time solo vistor to Hobart I found it a great location to be in for exploring the city, by foot or by public transport.
Admittedly it's on a busy street but I found my double room on the first floor looking out to Argyle St was quieter than I expected. For $60 per night ( winter rate) I got a double bed (even better value if shared between 2 people obviously) and basic room with open hanging rack and shelves, heater, chair, sidetable and clock radio. A heater in winter is a must, as it was 2 degrees celsius outside at 7am. Access to brand new bathroom was across the hallway. Best bathrooms I've seen in a hostel. Obviously still very new.
Pluses: clean, great location, very near to art gallery, museum, post office, Salamanca Market, harbour, restaurants, cafes, heritage locations, transport and shopping.Staff very helpful for booking tours and general info. Ability to self cater.
Minuses: above a pub/bar that has somewhat raucous patrons on Friday and Saturday night, tiny communal kitchen with only one set of hotplates and a dingy TV lounge. Access only by stairs, so no good if you can't lug suitcases or backpacks.
