To the wecome on arriving, the comfortable rooms and beds, clean good quality, nothing was too much for the staff, as we arriveded late afternoon we asked where we could have a light lunch, they were happy for us to sit in the Onyz bar and order lunch from there,

We had dinner in the hotel one night, all good,
A very special thank you to the Concierge ROY, who knows Hobart inside out, with his guidence and knowledge we enjoyed, Battery Point where you must stop for a drink and meal at "Shippies" Inn,
Then go to Salamanca--we did on Friday night and peple just milling about having dinner and drinks from 25 to at least 80, so trendy just the best kept secret from the rest of Austraila.
Enjoy a drink and meal or a drink and tapas at The Gape--Salamancawe did--TWICE ---Hobart is a lovely place with heaps to visit as is Launceston.
Tasmania--Australia's secret !

Room Tip: Take a Harbour view room

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights on a business trip. My room was on the ground (first) floor at the water's edge. It was clean and comfortable. Free internet in the room via wired connection (not wireless The decor was a bit dated with some shabbiness around the edges, but they worked hard to keep the place clean and tidy up a building that may need a refit soon.

The hotel itself is a mixed bag of rooms with some in the tower, some at the water's edge and some others described as 'mountain view'. Its a large place and the layout can be confusing. The trip from the lobby to my room involved a trip up, through a winding set of corridors and back down to the ground floor...not terribly convenient, but not a deal-breaker for me. Be aware of the layout before booking if you have mobility issues.

There are a handful of restaurants and bars on site for eating/drinking. I tried the Pier One which has a nice view of the water, but was (IMO) not a great value proposition: high prices for food that was 'good', not great. The service was good, perhaps that justifies the price. I also tried the Loft, which also has decent views, but more moderate prices with a minimal service arrangement: order at the counter, your food is brought out to you. A good middle of the road option. Breakfast everyday was in the buffet restaurant. The buffet was fairly standard...certainly adequate, not outstanding.

There are a few options onsite for gaming, if that is your interest.

Room Tip: If you like a view, book into the Tower.

I stayed here for 4 nights in the Edgewater rooms, not in the Tower. The room was clean and tidy and had a lovely view of the inlet. The room had a table with two chairs and an arm chair to sit in. The TV cabinet housed the fridge and had a drop down cabinet with tea and coffee etc. It also had a toaster which I thought was great! You have to use the desk to boil the kettle and use the toaster which was a bit awkward and when the cabinet was down it was hard if someone needed to pass you even though you could push it it. The bathroom had shampoo etc. The Newspaper was delivered each morning which was lovely. Overall a nice room.
The Edgewater rooms are located a way from the main reception area and we also had to go down the lift. I got lost at least once! However there are doors that open on that side that take you out to the car park which was good. The staff were exceptionally nice and helpful and said hello and good morning each time you passed.
The Casino is a bit out of town (We did not have a car) but there is a water taxi which wasn't operating when I needed. Taxi to or from Salamanca was aprox $10. There is a Coles, and other shops and restaurants about a 15 - 20 minute walk away. I don't mind walking and I walked in and out of town a few times. The Hop on Hop off bus picks you up from the front of the Casino and you can buy a ticket for 3 days for aprox $26 Adult.

Room Tip: Edgewater rooms are on the quieter side.

Great hotel, beautiful views, walk to restaurants, friendly and efficient staff, highly recommended. I took option with breakfast included - great choice and fresh food. The TV in room was only downside - bit smaller than what I am used to but not a big deal. Water views are brilliant but not essential to pay extra for as you can get water views from just going for a walk. Hobart has great water views from almost every location.

Room Tip: Mountain or Ocean views are both great.

Our tower executive suite 1006 had stunning water-views of the Derwent River. The suite was very spacious with a combined lounge, dining & small kitchenette. The bedroom consisted of a large king size bed with comfortable pillows. The bathroom was again roomy with a walk-in shower & spa bath.

The décor was very dated & needs modernizing as the orange carpet & orange flowered drapes were archaic however the suite was extremely comfortable. The TV’s all need replacing with plasma flat screens.

There are plenty of restaurants, cafes & bars in the Casino to keep you entertained for days. We dined at the Pier Restaurant & found it to be surprising good. Room service was very efficient & we found the free valet parking & cheerful staff to be excellent.

On the mezzanine level there is a hairdresser & beautician which I found to be handy.

For those looking for a little more entertainment there is the Casino with a large variety of table games like blackjack, roulette, & poker not to mention the huge array of pokies. Shows are also available for booking at the Showcase reception.

Overall: Although the hotel needs a major revamp, we still enjoyed our stay & found the Wrest Point Hotel to offer comfortable accommodation & for a few more dollars the suites offer excellent value. The hotel is located in Sandy bay approx 5mins drive from the CBD. Its best suited for having a hired car for getting around Hobart.
