While hotel is old,and in need of painting, position to shops and attractions makes up for this.
Staff were all friendly and helpful.
While breakfast was included in price,it was not the value, one would expect,A small car park, that was full each night, saw us leaving the car parked in case we could not get a spot,
Having been to tasmania many times was dissapointed to find it is like us tired,we mainly ate out at banjos nearby,a big bowl of soup and bread 6.50 filled you up,we also were able to get around on public transport. Our room overlooked carpark but was very quiet

Don't expect too much from this Hotel, but if you are looking for a comfortable, central and practical place to stay for a night or 3, then I can recommend this Hotel. The rooms are basic, but comfortable, it is an old building however I found every thing to be clean and in working order. Close to pubs, shops, 10 minute stroll to the wharf area.

This hotel is nothing fancy to look at from the outside but our room was clean, tidy and had nice decor. It is in a great location central to Hobart CBD. We received free weekend newspapers whilst staying there, we had chocolates on the bed and really nice complimentary coffee and free in house movies. The air con was very cool and the room was a good size and well decorated. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was adequate however we did not like the awkward raised shower and my partner had difficutly showering as the shower head was too low and could not be adjusted. The elevators are extremely slow which can be frustrating at times. They do provide off street parking for guests however there does not seem to be enough for everyone. A minor draw back for my coffee loving partner and I was that they claimed to have the best coffee in Hobart but this was not the case :) The guys at reception were very helpful and the washing facilities were cheap in comparison to other places we stayed. The bistro downstairs was very handy if you wanted a quick meal. All in all it was a nice place to stay whilst in Hobart.

I loved the location, almost in Elizabeth St Mall. Reception staff were always friendly and helpful. The lifts were prompt and room service discreet but thorough. The room (5th floor) was larger than average, with easy chairs and side table. I liked that the window could open for fresh air, and had a pleasant outlook. The bed was comfortable and had the current regulation hotel bed linen, brown & white look. The bathroom, while adequate is in need of reburbishment. I appreciated the plunger coffee, well as usual tea making provisions. The mini bar was reasonably priced - but with a liquor store in the arcade downstairs, was not needed to be used! Access out through the ground floor gaming machine room was curious and a bit weird, and not that much quicker than via the front entrance in Bathurst St.
I was agreeably surprised to find this a very convenient and comfortable place to stay, in the shopping precinct - and just a short walk to the waterfront.

Although this hotel is a bit on the older style it is an extremely friendly and well-located hotel, especially if you don't have a car. My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights with our 3 year-old grand-daughter to wander around and enjoy the city of Hobart and we couldn't have been happier! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful - no trouble at all assist in printing our boarding passes for the return flights. As a rule, we don't eat in the hotels, but we had dinner at Esus on the ground floor and Heidi and her team were great in looking after us and making our grand-daughter in particular very comfortable - even the other patrons joined in for a chat.

A bonus for us was being able to hire a stroller at HealthEquip just up the road on the corner of Murray Street. Our flight was delayed but it was no trouble for them to wait 25 minutes beyond the 2.00 pm closing time while I stumbled around looking for the shop. Not only did it cost just $20 for the 2 days, they came and picked it up from the hotel on the Monday morning as we had to leave before the shop opened. Try getting that sort of co-operation in Melbourne or Sydney!

The hotel is also very conveniently located on the corner of Elizabeth Street just up from the mall and an easy 15 minute stroll down to the docks. If you like seafood but not spending a fortune, try Mures at the eastern end of the doc area - they have a seafood platter meal for $16.90 which, while not huge, was very tasty and just enough for dinner if you pick up an ice-cream cone on the way out for the stroll home.

This place is quite old in style...the hallways are quite odd brickwork and very dark. The room we had was a "compact corner" room - though it was adequate enough for us. The bed and pillows were comfy, the TV worked and there were free movies. The bathroom was small, but fine - the shower was good. The price was very good for Hobart, and overall we were happy. My only gripe was that the place was a bit noisy. There was a little noise off the street from traffic, but the most noise that we encountered was from VERY LOUD people in the adjoining rooms - the walls are a bit thin. Location is great - just near the CBD shopping district and 10 minutes walk from all the touristy things in the city.
