Whether religious or not this building is worth a visit. Saint David's Cathedral is the church of the Bishop of Tasmania therefore serving the city and the state.
Saint David's is widely regarded as the finest example, outside England, of neo-gothic style. A square tower (13 bells) of simple design is built of fine Oatlands stone.

You must stick your head inside the door of this beautiful piece of our history. It's one of Australia's buildings and well worth a look.

After we had parked our car and started walking towards the centre of Hobart, I heard the peal of bells and, I must admit, I was drawn to them. We discovered the source to be St David's Cathedral and, to my surprise, I found myself drawn inside. The choir was singing Handel's Hallelujah chorus, we were welcomed by church ushers and parishioners with warm and friendly smiles, so we sat for a while and drank in the joy that resounded within this most beautiful building.

So, one does not necessarily need to embrace a particular religious dogma to appreciate not only the spectacular architecture, acoustics and history of this Cathedral but the beauty, peace and love so interwoven in its formidable buttresses, stained glass windows and well worn (and warmed!) pews.

When next in Hobart, take a moment to discover this island of peacefulness and calm that is St David's Cathedral.

Unfortunately you are only allowed into the min section of the Cathedral & I suspect there is a great deal more to see but it was not open when we were there. A lovely old church with a sense of peace would have loved to hear the organ.
