Owner description: Louisa's Walk is a piece of Strolling Theatre or Walking Play that takes you on a journey into the life of Louisa Ragan, an Irish convict, sent to Van Diemen's Land on a seven year sentence, in 1841, for stealing a loaf of bread. You walk with the actors as they tell Louisa's story. You will meet Louisa outside the famous Cascade Brewery building in South Hobart. You will walk through the beautiful Cascade Gardens along to the World Heritage listed Cascades Female Factory Historic Site where Louisa was imprisoned. Once you enter those locked gates, they are shut behind you and you experience life in this harsh prison. You may laugh and you may cry but you will remember Louisa's story!

I booked Louisa's Walk after reading the wonderful reviews on Trip Advisor. My mother and I are happy to agree with everyone else that Louisa's walk is excellent!! It's a 2 hr walk through the beautiful Cascade Gardens to The Cascades Female Factory (and back). The actors are professional and talented! (We had Judith and Colin). They are focussed and stay in character the entire time, depicting the story of Louisa who was arrested in England and sentenced to 7 years at the Female Factory in South Hobart for stealing a loaf of bread! A captivating 2 hrs, where the actors transport us back to the 1800's and give us an insight to what females experienced on their journey to Australia and in the female factory itself. Not only was it educational but moving and enjoyable. The fabulous acting triggers ones imagination and provokes various emotions. A memorable experience and a story you are sure to talk about with family and friends when you return home!

****There is a short interval at the Female Factory so you can go to the bathroom, grab a coffee, stroll around and purchase a book or other merchandise if you wish.

Louisa's Walk was the highlight of our trip to Tasmania. It's a 2 hour walk of living history enacted byJudith (playing Louisa) and Colin (playing police officer, judge, ship captain, etc.) All of the "audience" got to participate as well. We learned so much about the convict history of Tasmania. I'm glad we did this before going to Port Arthur because it really provided good background information.

The good reviews have said it all! We had a great couple of hours going back in time with Louisa (played by the wonderfully talented Judith) and a cast of other characters all played by the equally talented Colin.
The play was insightful and took us on an incredibly touching journey. We had 3 kids with us aged 6, 11 & 13 and all we're enthralled and engaged throughout...there is no better way for them to learn a bit of history. My 83 year old mum didn't find the walk difficult at all and felt the story really tugging at her heart strings.
This is an experience not to be missed when you are in Hobart. We simply loved it !

When visiting Hobart, we went on a walk with Louisa. She told us her story about the Female Factory. This is a true story that has been carefully researched and is re-enacted twice a day to help visitors know what life was really like in the Factory.
My husband was saying "Not another old prison!" But this time he really enjoyed the experience. This is a far more interesting way to visit.
Everything happened pretty much as it said on the website. http://livehistoryhobart.com.au/
We met on the lawn of the Cascades Brewery and went from there on this historical walk. It was wonderful!

We went for the show despite the rain even though it's an open-air performance and participation where we are both the audience and participants in the show. Never regret the decision as we enjoy and also educated by the actor and actress through their performance and songs on how much hardship women went through to attain the equality and status for women where we are today. This is especially crucial for anyone who is interested in history, gender equality, tasmania history, enjoyment, gd performance. Generally, a MUST-DO when you are in Tasmania.
