Owner description: Louisa's Walk is a piece of Strolling Theatre or Walking Play that takes you on a journey into the life of Louisa Ragan, an Irish convict, sent to Van Diemen's Land on a seven year sentence, in 1841, for stealing a loaf of bread. You walk with the actors as they tell Louisa's story. You will meet Louisa outside the famous Cascade Brewery building in South Hobart. You will walk through the beautiful Cascade Gardens along to the World Heritage listed Cascades Female Factory Historic Site where Louisa was imprisoned. Once you enter those locked gates, they are shut behind you and you experience life in this harsh prison. You may laugh and you may cry but you will remember Louisa's story!

Previously titled 'Louisa's Walk', 'Her Story' is a compelling and well scripted drama of the life of convict women who arrived at the 'women's factory'. As you follow the drama you become immersed in the story and emotionally connected to 'Louisa' as she includes the participants in the drama. Although you are walking around an empty yard it is not long before you imagine yourself in the godforsaken prison. Absolutely worth the money! Take a hat if you're going in summer! I initially hesitated taking photos I was so scared of the overseer!!

We did this walk a couple of years ago and often tell people who are visiting Hobart to do it. Louisa's walk transforms you to convict days in Hobart. She walks quite slowly as she takes you through the life of a convict and what they would experience when they first arrived in the colony. You think you know what to expect, but it's much more harsh a life than you could imagine.

The concept is to involve everybody in the story of Loiuse who is a female convict transported to Tasmania. Through her experiences you learn about the plight of women who were sent to the Female Factory and look over the site remains. It is very cleverly conceived and delivered by the actors, and is a unique and enthralling experience.
