Owner description: A theatrical journey amongst the first buildings of European settlement in Hobart that now form the location for the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. Your guide plays four different characters from Hobart's past, either men who worked in these buildings or helped build them, all of whom reveal secrets and relate stories from Hobart's convict beginnings. The most fun you will ever have learning history.

Went to see Colin Dean at TMAG (the museum in Hobart) doing his Settlement Secrets tour and what a show this was and what a talented man Colin is. This is a very entertaining and informative little show that is well worth an hour of your time to hear the true stories and see areas of the museum that you may not have been able to access before. Colin delivers the history of old Hobart town and some of its characters in a way to entertain and involve his audience. Our group was totally engaged in Colin's tales and were eager to ask lots of questions. To top it all we received our ticket of leave that entitled us to cuppa in the museum cafe which was a lovely way to end the outing. I thoroughly recommend you go and see this and take some friends along with you. Totally awesome.

A very enjoyable hour of history.
Unlike history presented as a dry set of plaques attached to buildings, this presents history as a living thing. Colin Dean recreates a series of historical figures related to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery precinct, and gives them life and personality.
You get a chance to look at some areas of the museum that are not general public areas, and an appreciation of the evolution of the site.
The tour is about an hour long, and is not a difficult walk.
I recommend this to anyone interested in how Hobart, and the museum, became what it is today.

I've lived in Hobart for years and visited the museum many times, but, this is the first time someone has brought all the stories and the place to life for me. the tour is informative, but, most of all it's lively and entertaining. it brings the human side to the history and is a wonderful addition to the fantastic new museum.

I have visited TMAG many times but this was one of the best hours I have ever spent there. I learnt a lot and gained a greater appreciation of the Sullivans Cove precinct. The tour takes you into some behind the scenes and less accessible areas of the museum, which lends a nice air of privilege to the experience. The variety of characters leading the tour ensure it is entertaining as well as informative. A great thing to add to your 'must do' list for tourists and locals alike.
