Hobart's Don Camillo is situated in the early stages of Sandy Bay, roughly half way between the CBD and Wrest Point Hotel-Casino and is about a five minute drive from the CBD. In my estimation, this restaurant has been around (and in the same location) for the best part of 50 years and that being the case, they're obviously doing more than a few things right. We dined recently with a relatively large group (8) and received good service and generally good food and wine with a good, if somewhat noisy, atmosphere. I say generally good food because the chicken breast went the same way as many chicken breasts before it - too dry. But that aside, comments ranged from "good" to "great" with the highlights being the pasta (sensational gnocchi) and the steak ("Filletto" ordered medium-rare and delivered exactly as ordered). Another stand-out dish was the mushroom bruschetta which proved to be one of those dishes which everyone should experience at least once in their life. All in all, a very good experience, well worth revisiting in the future.
