Very quiet rooms. excellent service and a great hub for country people to catch up with each other in the big city - especially when the footy, cricket or tennis is on! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

I spent two nights in Melbourne on business and the hotel is a great location for walking around the CBD. he hotel is fine but nothing special. The breakfast restaurant though was quite ordinary. The room was quiet and clean and the bed very comfortable.

Rocked up looked good, left our bag's with the valet, he told us they would be taken to our room. So went to check in, after checking in and being in the room for an hr no bag's. After getting the ringing around on the phone to this department then that department they got our bags to us 3 hr's later. The free breakfast that came with the room was charged to the table... Very average

Rooms are very comfortable, neat and spotless. All of the restaurants serve excellent food. From the casual in the Bistro and Conservatory to tapas in the wine bar and formal in the Members Dining Room. Pricing is very good for food and drinks. Great facilities for members, pool and gym are outstanding.

Room Tip: Try the Club level.

Stayed at this place recently with my friends and was really surprised at the size of the place and level of service. I had always thought of RACV as the break-down cars, insurance, etc, but was pleasantly surprised to find out they are also a major hotel player. (as good as the Hyatt, Westin, Sofitel, Sheraton of which I have stayed).
We checked out on Queens Birthday morning and was obvious the place was running on skeleton staff for the public holiday, but regardless we received top-notch service from everyone we encountered which was a pleasure. We were checked out by a fellow with a beard (I think manager) who was a pleasure, even after we had finished paperwork and he had moved on to service other people, he hadn't forgot us and noticed we forgot 1 bag on the cart so managed to bring it out to us as we were leaving and see us out. Good old fashioned service otherwise we would have left it behind!
Only catch to this place is you have to buy a membership to stay or be the friend of a member. So a bit silly not being open to the public.

Room Tip: Did not see it but heard people talking about Level 8 as the place to be.

I have visited the RACV City Club many times and all is very good except the first floor bistro. The service is patchy in many ways (like you may or may not get the bill after asking for it, or a shared side salad arrives with no serving spoon). I get the impression that the waiting staff are poorly selected or trained. The food is also patchy from plainly OK to being destroyed by far too much salt. It is also noisy so you may struggle with a engaging conversation with your quintessence. Expect long non-conversational moments.

The RACV City Club in Melbourne offers excellent rooms, superior exercise facilities (my favorite is the swimming pool), terrific eating choices, and the best location in Melbourne's center city. Service is excellent, the staff is helpful whether serving food, offering advice, or cleaning guest rooms. Having visited private clubs in many cities/countries, for me the RACV's club is at the top of the list for all the right reasons.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked Burke Street (the main street in the area) -- no problems with noise, light, or...
