“Good Location only”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 November 2013

Honestly ,it was just a average stay. The location is good, near southern cross station and easily catch a tram in front of YHA.
But the facilities is limited. The kitchen are too small!! Not even occupied by 5person, it was full.So is the bathroom, only 2 shower, sometimes it's full. So if you are traveling in group, i will recommend you looks for other else.

Staying there for four nights during my trip to explore "the world's most liveable city" in a 4-beds share. The room was big enough for four guys. Staffs were nice and friendly. Hostel's security is super good. The location was good, in between Southern Cross terminal where you can easily take bus to the airport or to Sydney, and Flinders Street - the city centre - where you can conveniently ride on train and tram to travel around the city.

This place is the worst hostel I've stayed in across all of Europe Asia and Australia. Maybe I'm just really good at picking hostels and dropped the ball with this one. I stayed in two different rooms and every single mattress in both 6 share rooms has a massive dent in the middle of them. That's 12 mattresses, all of which probably should have been changed years ago. They give you two blankets, in case it gets too cold in winter and you need extra warmth. I had to use the winter blanket to full the crater (massive dent) in the mattress by folding it and sliding it into place. It fit almost perfectly. There's also no atmosphere here whatsoever. Really hard to meet people or hang out in a communal area. Some of the staff are lovely (the Finnish girl who worked there in September was really cool and amazingly helpful) but one of the Australian female receptionists had a bit of a couldn't care less attitude. Having stayed in all three yhas in Sydney CBD and three others across Australia I can safely say this hostel doesn't even come close to
Yhas standard. But you still have to pay the price. Maybe 20 years ago it was nice but not anymore. The bathrooms are nicely decorated though. The other Yha (metro) in Melbourne is much much much nicer and has a great communal area, decent mattresses and is in a cool part of Melbourne. It's a really friendly place and really easy to meet people. The people I met there ended go becoming really good friends with each other, bought a van and went travelling together. My visa was running out so I couldn't go with them. Metro is much better than central. Avoid central!!

The hotel is clean and very well located, near Southern Cross Station and Skybus, free City Circle Tram Stop is right in front. It was right in the CBD with a wonderful transport system right at the door. Staff are friendly. You can borrow hair dryer and extension cord.
Wifi is fast but not free. No breakfast.

I've book the room for two person bunked bed for 4 nights. The room and amenities are clean. I was expecting that the room little bit bigger however it was tiny and very hard to move around with two people in it. I guess that what you expect from a hostel. Other than that, you can check in anytime and the location is quite good. You can catch free tram from the front of the hostel.

Room Tip: Before you book, maybe prudent to give the hostel a call to ask how big the room is

A bit of a tatty old building on the outside, but well kept and clean inside. Staff are helpful and generally friendly. The building is very secure. A safe hostel for women. Not a party hostel, so no drunks or rowdy people in the halls at night. If you don't mind the sound of trams, its position on Flinders Street on the edge of the CBD is very convenient. There is a tram stop right outside, which includes the free tourist tram circuit. Offers good tours and trip packages. Very near to Southern Cross station with links to airport, and the the South Bank area for restaurants, bars and entertainment. Rooms were good. Room service very efficient. Kitchens are closed for several hours every afternoon in order to properly clean them, which I liked, although the kitchens can get crowded if everybody uses them at once. Dorms are spacious enough, although the windows in some could do with replacing. Good value for money hostel.

This is another great YHA hostel. In an awesome location, it's pretty much handy to everything in Melbourne. The free tram stops just outside the door and the bus station for the airport is a couple of minutes walk away. The staff are very friendly and helpful (even when the fire alarm went off at 1am we were greeted with a smile). The facilities are great. Kitchens are somewhat crowded but a great place to meet your fellow travellers. If you have time to kill, take a book onto the balcony, a nice place to just relax. Make sure you book ahead though, this is a very popular hostel. I will definitely stay again.
