“Fabulous Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2011

Loved this hotel! We searched for a long time for the best hotel in melbourne. We were looking for good location, price and comfort. The Blackman had all three. I loved that this hotel did not have all the pretentiousness of the bigger fancy hotels but had everything you needed. The French Cafe had the most amazing breakfasts I have had at any hotel(recommend the eggs benedict. The Italian Restaurant had the best goats cheeses ravioli in creamy basil pesto sauce. Loved looking at all of Charles Blackmans Artwork.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The tram was located right near the hotel close to Chapel St and CBD.
The room was spacious but cosy, pity the weather was cold otherwise we would have opended the doors to the 2 balconies. The bed was ok comfy but not as much as the Westins.
The hotel was located in the business district so it was probably more suitable to the business travellor however that it not bother us .
Happy we stayed there.

Very comfortable beds, nice and quiet but central location. The French patisserie downstairs is ideal for grabbing coffees and lite breakfasts. Room service was really good too. Was my second stay and will definitely go back again.

stylish is the word for this hotel. But we were only in town for half a day. Would need a more conveniently located hotel than this.

At night, it was a little too noisy for sleep.

Room Tip: ask a room with view over albert park

Any review needs to be balanced against the price paid. Is this the second best hotel in Melbourne? Probably not. Is it good value? Yes.

Let's start with the basics. Will you get a good nights sleep? Yes. The beds and manchester are terrific although I was surprised that duvet covers are not used. The pillows? Mmmmmmm. Fantastic. The rooms are double glazed and 1307 doesn't suffer from the white noise and noise transmission issues of other hotels.

Check in was seamless and quick although no bell hop to greet our cab and take care of our lluggage. We were soon showing ourselves to our room. It was a corner position with very restricted views. We felt that the 23 or 24m2 was a bit small for a couple for a whole week and so enquired about an upgrade to a larger room. We were offered a 37m2 room on level 13 with two balconies, a king size bed and views across Albert Park to the bay. If you are staying for any length if time I recommend that you pay the extra for the larger room.

Our room, 1307, was well appointed with air conditioning, high gloss joinery, Caesarstone benches, integrated office desk and so forth. Overall I would rate the fixtures and fittings as 8/10. The house keeping includes daily service but some aspects such as windows and balcony tiles were not 100%. The polypropylene carpet detracted from the overall feeling of quality.

Any hotel is just a building and it is the staff that can make or break your stay. I found all of the staff to be pleasant and helpful to deal with.

In summary, art work, design and staff combine to make this a pleasurable experience and great value.

Room Tip: Go for the extra space and king size bed.

We had the pleasure of spending 4 nights at the Blackman last week. It was the best part of our 12 night stay in Australia. Front desk was so helpful in every way. Loved the location which provided for easy access to public transportation. The only negative that I can report is that we were disappointed it he quality of the pizza served in their Classico restaurant. The French Bakery, on the other hand was excellent. I would absolutely return and highly recommend this property.

I stayed 3 nights at The Blackman on a recent business trip. The staff were all very friendly and genuine. The suite was spacious, clean, quiet and very comfortable, while the bed was absolutely superb. Hotel location is also very convenient, close to the city centre and easily accessible by tram. I couldn't see myself staying anywhere else on future trips to Melbourne!
