Stayed in this hotel only for 1 night on a business trip to Melbourne and found it a little gem (although not that little - 200+ rooms)
Reception was friendly and efficient, the rooms are modern and quirky and although my colleagues thought there was too much black in the decor, I found it refreshing to see something different. The rooms are well equipped and are also apartment style with kitchenettes.
They have great Australian amenities in the bathroom and the beds was so comfortable!
Great cafe and restaurant on the ground floor which the quality in service and food matched the quality of the hotel.
Although a bit further out of town it was a nice change to be out in a leafy area.
Great hotel and great value, would highly recommend this hotel.

Normally ART hotels are boutique in size but this one has over 200 rooms. There are original works of Blackman's art together with prints throughout the building. Location is a short tram ride from both the CBD and St Kilda and we found pre purchasing tram tickets essential. The hotel itself is comfortable and tries to be luxurious but little things let it down. e.g. The bath towels have seen their best and need to be replaced--preferably with bath sheets.
However our biggest gripe is their policy of charging a surcharge on credit card payments which is an increasing trend which needs to be addressed. Why make this charge when it is just another cost of their operation as is shampoo, soap and toilet paper etc. If you agree then please make this point in every hotel where a surcharge is made

Room Tip: Ask for one with a balcony

Due to the unfortunately event of my return flight out of Melbourne being cancelled, I was lucky(although at this point I did not know how lucky) to be sent to the Blackman for the night courtesy of the airline. Check in staff treat you like you have been staying for years, the rooms(1112) was stunning, the bed is like sleeping on clouds. Room service was delivered in 15 minutes, the standard club sandwich was delicious. Rooms are spacious and of course, artfully decorated. The acrylic cushioned chair is ecstatically pleasing however not functional as a working desk chair, I would have to say that was the only area I could make a critical comment about as most of the time, I travel for business.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear or front facing may have a good view, mine was located at rear corner so overlooking other office/apartments.

Stayed at this hotel recently for a weekend escape. We had a great time away from the kids and appreciated the bottle of wine reception gave us. Room was on a high floor with a view to the city. Everything was clean and the bed was comfy too. Good service provided from the desk and in the restaurants. Keep your eyes out for a good deal. We paid a bit extra because Melbourne was busy, but still reasonable value. The hotel is not near any shops, so bring a car or use the trams. Thanks

I was involved in the organising committee for a fundraising event. The Blackman kindly donated the penthouse for our cocktail evening. Food was tasty and staff on the night were very helpful, even with a few last minute requests. The penthouse overlooks the bay and was perfect for what we needed. Thanks again for your contribution.
