The room was well appointed, and we had an entire wall of glass to catch the view looking out away from the city. The room had a small kitchen-type area with cooking facilities should they have been needed. The balcony with table and chairs would have been very nice for a cup of coffee on a warmer trip! Breakfast in the adjoining cafe was reasonably priced and of good quality.

The hotel is slightly out of the city centre, but was within an easy 20 minute walk. It's also located 2 minutes from the nearest tram stop, and the trams run up and down to the city regularly, taking about 5-10 minutes.

It's always a disappointment to be charged for both wi-fi and bottled water in the room in a hotel of this quality.

I was pleased to read your review on the hotel facilities. Our rooms here at The Blackman all come with a balcony for you to enjoy the summer weather to its full potential. In regards to our wifi and bottled water, this is a work in progress and hopefully by the next visit these will be included. We also have a partnership system with Priority Guest Rewards which offers guests 10% off rates, 50% of in room internet, 20% off meals and complimentary bottled water daily, sign up is free when making a reservation on our website.

I stayed at the Blackman for 3 nights whilst visiting Melbourne and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The hotel is located on St Kilda Rd about a 20 minute walk (or 5 minute tram ride) from Flinders Station.

I stayed in one of the Studio Suite Balcony rooms with a view over St Kilda Rd. The room was quite spacious and the available space is used well creating a feeling of roominess. Everything was clean and well presented and the bed was very comfortable.

The Hotel clearly has excellent sound proofing as there was minimal noise from other rooms or from the street below.

The staff were very helpful and pleasant in the majority of circumstances and seemed genuinely interested in talking with guests and assisting with their inquiries.

The Hotel has a well appointed mid sized gym (if thats important to you - it is to me) that was clean and well kept with new equipment.

It is a short walk to the Victorian War Memorial, Myer music bowl and Government House and on a fine day is a very enjoyable walk to the City centre.

In all I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Check in to our room and on initial inspection, that the carpets are stained, mirrors filthy, curtains water stained and shower has mould.
Once we got to bed that night we discovered that instead of having a quilt with a quilt cover, it simply has a flat sheet on bottom and flat sheet on top. So the quilt is easily exposed unless you sleep like a corpse.
I find this repolsive and unhygienic, so the next morning asked if we could have a quilt cover bought to our room. The lady was courteous and obliged.
However on returning that night we found the same set-up with the quilt and i rang reception and was told that they have no covers for the quilt and that its common practice in hotels. I was rather surprised by this as I have been all over the world and have never seen this before. Filthy!

On another note: we booked through wotif and booked a mystery deal- ended up getting the blackman, thinking we would get a super nice room for nearly $200 a night through mystery deal. However we ended up with the standard suite and probably payed the same rate or more through the mystery deal. NO DEAL!

Over all ..overpriced and definitely not worth the hype.

Many thanks Jani for providing us with your feedback following your recent stay. While I am aware of the issue that you raised regarding your bed during your stay, I feel it is important to point out (for the benefit of future travellers) that this is common practice throughout Australian 5 star hotels. We would have been more than happy to offer an alternative, but unfortunately we do not use quilt covers. While our rates vary each night, we can always offer you the best available rate when you book direct so please keep this in mind for future stays. We look forward to welcoming you back to The Blackman again.

My partner organised a special week end for us, he chose This hotel. The hotel is close to the city, with a tram ride just steps away. The rooms are clean and have room to spread your thing out. The staff are available and do there job.

The cost of Internet ridiculous, so many places offer it for free.

The cost of mini bar ridiculous, $11.00 for one packet of Natural berry bliss. Come on they are $3.00 in any store.

There is nothing wrong with this hotel, it's like every other 4/5 star hotel out there.

The people I spent my time with while staying at the hotel, is what made it special.

Thank you for taking the time to review our property following your recent stay. We are in the process of reveiwing our internet costings and are hopeful that some changes will be made shortly. Our Priority Guest Rewards membership program offers guests 50% off internet and also a number of other wonderful benefits. This program is free to join and you can easily sign up through our website or on site at any Art Series/Rydges/QT property. There may have been some confusion, with regards to our mini bar, as our natural confectionary is only $4.00, while our freckleberry chocolates are $11.00 per box. I am happy to hear that you had a special stay with us and look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Fantastic Location, great staff and beautiful rooms. The decor, the amazing art, and stylish room... it all made my stay unique and special. Additionally, all the artwork on display throughout the hotel makes it a very interesting and exceptional experience. Very Romantic! :)
