Located on the banks of the South side of the Yarra, it is fabulously located for early morning jogs alongside the rowers along the Yarra. In the evening, a leisurely stroll amongst the fairy lights that line Soutbank, is a fabulous way to relax before retiring to your spacious and luxurious room.
Additionally, the fantastic tram system of Melbourne is just at the door, connecting any traveller to any sort of venue, sporting, dining, business or shopping specialty.
Also keep your eyes peeled to spot many of e "famous people" who also stay at the Metropol.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor to view the city lights and skyline

This hotel is part of the Crown Entertainment Complex which is huge and all interlinked by aerial walkways to Crown Promenade Hotel and of course the Casino. However the hotel is situated behind the other 2 buildings so if you wanted to walk to downtown its a bit further away approximately 20mins walk.
Lobby was huge and decor was grey and black with a sweeping staircase which made the lobby rather dark and dim.I only had contact with the receptionist during my stay so cant comment much on their service. Not much conversation took place between us except "your room is" .....and thats it.
Corridors were again dim as the decor continued to be greyish and black. But once inside the room..it was very stylish.Big spacious area with a comfortable bed with plenty of pillows, desk and a lounger against the window. The bathroom was very big and had a long counter top which i liked as i could place my toiletries.Separate toilet and shower also of good size.Decor was very modern.Usual amenities inside the closet ironing board bathrobe and slippers.Nice coffee and unusual tea selections(not your regular Liptons teabags).Aircon was very strong but worked well and most importantly..quiet.
As usual the internet rate was ridiculously high at $25AUD per 24hours and with a cap of 1MB...thereafter which u had to pay with your kidney.
Not a bad hotel and certainly not an outstanding hotel. For location wise i prefer The Crown Promenade but for the rooms Metropol is way better.

The Crown Metropol overcharged me for an international telephone call. They charged me $5/minute. The hotel in Sydney charged me $2/minute for the same call, same time of day, to the same telephone number.

The Crown Metropol also tried to overcharge a friend of mine who stayed in the hotel at the same time as I did. They tried to double charge him for breakfast.

I advise that you find somewhere else to stay.

This place makes you feel like a millionaire.

Great rooms, amazing view, the foyer is fantastic too.

Its a basic 5 star hotel, it has everything you want and didnt realise you did. Its attached to the rest of the Crown "theme park" which never sleeps so you can be entertained 24/7.

I didnt see the gym or pool, but I did try and go to the day spa but it was booked out 2 weeks in advance? which is a shame - perhaps if they kept the day spa for guests only, then it wouldnt be so booked out.

My only gripe is the distance from the centre of Melb, but that goes for the whole of Crown. Its its own city, but i like being closer to the cocktail bars.

For anyone who has stayed on the Vegas strip you will feel at home at the Crown Metropol. The internal decor is dark and moody and the rooms are spacious with a nice open feel, using sliding shutters between the bedroom and bath area. The beds are soft and firm but you should consider bringing your own pillow if you suffer from kneck problems - all the pillows are too firm/large (but great for hugging if you are without a partner). The comlementary robes rank amongst the best in the World, soooooo soft and large enough for even the largest of us.
The staff are efficient and friendly, check in/ check out, valet parking and all the twiddly bits were faultless. I did not try the food in the hotel, there are just too many better choices on the South Bank, but the 28th floor bar is well worth a look in and has a smoking balcony if you can brave the weather.
And lastly the location - assuming you want more than access to the casino then there are closer hotels to the CBD but you can walk almost all the way to Fliders Street without having to go outside. And you are within 10 minutes walk of some of the finest dining in Melbourne (unless you like Italian in which case you are still better taking a cab to Lygon Street).
Worth a gamble.

The Crown Metropol is a very nice hotel. Nice decor and very modern rooms. The swimming pool is amazing. Breakfast at the Club Room (known as '28') was pretty much standard hotel buffet selection, nothing special. But disappointing was happy hour at the club room. No nibble selection like most other hotel club rooms. There was limited bread and dip available on order. The venue itself is very nice with plenty of space to meet friends. And the bar staff are very nice. But for the cost of a few drinks the extra charge for the 'Club Rooms' is questionable.
Internet is a rip off costing an extra $25 per day per device! In this day and age most international business travellers have at least two devices between a smartphone, a tablet and a notebook. And if you are with a family then it's the same problem.
And the parting impression.....a credit card surcharge......really? Why not just build it into the room charge? I hate being sprung with 'extra' charges when paying for things. People need to stop accepting these stupid surcharges. Not good customer relations if you ask me.
Overall I'd say the Crown Metropol is a nice hotel. Shame about the extras.
