“Modern and well designed”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

Great location, easy access by public transport, pleasant efficient staff and very well designed rooms. Surprisingly quiet for such a central location. The rooms are very modern, light and bright. Parking is available too. Only minor criticism was a soft mattress and pillow but this is a personal like/dislike.

We (two couples) stayed here for two nights in studio rooms so we could go to two footy games, one Friday 20th June and then Saturday 21st, checking out on the Sunday.

Our flight to Melbourne got us into town around midday and one room was ready, while the other one was not. All good, checkin is 2pm, so we were glad to have a room to put our luggage in while we went to lunch (see my other review on a brilliant lunch place about 1.5 blocks away)

The check in was very comprehensive with the fellow going over everything and giving us plenty of advice on the hotel. While we were at lunch the hotel called to let us know that the other room was ready (a nice touch!) so we could check in for the second room.

The rooms were both quite liveable (I think our studio was slightly larger than our friends') with a full kitchenette (double hob as well as microwave) with enough utensils and cookware/crockery to make meals, and the bonus of a dishwasher. No washing machine in either studio however on level 10 we had a paid laundry available (didn't use but saw the signs). The shower in our room (didn't see the other room) was almost 3 times the size of ours at home! Plenty of strong hot water at any time of the day too (we had showers in the early to mid-morning and at night after a very cold footy game). Some Fox channels on TV and a stereo with dock (only suits iPhone 4 and earlier - couldn't connect our iPhone 5, including by USB). Lighting was good, and glad to see the hotel uses warm white bulbs for those which aren't halogen - and a really nice lighting feature of the strip lighting up the wall/bed head unit above our bed.

The only drawback for us was that the bed was way too soft (we like a firm bed) as were the pillows. This may suit others, but we found we kept waking up as a result. No noise (double glazed window over the Bourke Street view) whatsoever. We were only metres from the lifts but did not have any noise. The curtains are something else - we need to get some of these at home - it was pitch black when they were closed!

There is a Nespresso commercial (paid) machine in the foyer which worked on the first day and made sensational coffee for $2, however it was out of order the next day unfortunately. No big issue though - the place in the building next door (walk out the front door, turn right and walk up one cafe) had a toast and coffee deal for $6. The Japanese restaurant in the front of the hotel does breakfast but a bit more expensive.

Check out was a breeze, and overall I cannot fault the staff in any respect - in fact I can't speak highly enough. Very happy with our decision to stay here and will be back in the future.

Room Tip: Studio looking over Bourke, and ask for one of the larger rooms. Both rooms were facing Bourke but...

This was my first trip to Melbourne and it didn’t start well as I was sick throughout my flight. Due to this I was not looking forward to having to wait for my room to be ready at the usual check in time of 2pm as my flight arrived in the morning, however, the staff at Citadines were not only accommodating but wonderful as they checked me in to the only room which was available at the time. This set the tone for our entire stay as the staff proved to be extremely efficient and helpful, providing exceptional service throughout our entire stay. They were also extremely knowledgeable which made life easy .

The room we stayed in was a standard and it was what we expected from the photos and description on their website, but most importantly it was clean. The only low was the bed was too soft for either of our liking but that was just an individual preference. Absolutely no street noise which was great.

The location of Citadines on Bourke was perfect as it was easily accessible to a lot of the tourist attractions either by foot or public transport. The tram stop is located basically outside the hotel entrance and the train station is a short walk. Spoilt for choice, there was an array of restaurants, bars and eateries to choose from within close vicinity. The theatres are also very close. We attended The King and I at the Princess Theatre and it was a short leisurely stroll away. We also went to the National Gallery of Victoria to view The Italian Masters exhibition and that was about a 10 to 15 minute walk with plenty to see along the way .

In summary I would definitely return to Citadines as well as recommend it without hesitation to anyone as its location is central and perfect for anyone visiting Melbourne. Couple that location with the excellent customer service and Citadines on Bourke will always be my preference in Melbourne.

We stayed 4 nights at Citadines. The location is great and we had an excellent room on the 20th floor. Beds were very comfortable with feather duvets, a great asset as it was very cold & wet.
The bathroom was very clean with a huge shower.
When we entered our room on our arrival, the bed was a king where we had asked for 2 twin. After ringing reception this was sorted quite promptly.
On the Monday we arrived back to our room at 6 pm and our room had not been serviced during the day. After calling reception fresh towels were delivered to our room. We were offered a room clean but I declined at that time of the day.
Would stay again as rooms are nice and have everything you need. My daughter loved the pool too.

We were on the 20th floor, what a view, day and night, sunset and sunrise, it was magical
check in was smooth and cheerful, whenever we passed the reception desk there was a smile and greeting... I like that. Bed was very comfortable, quiet, and the kitchenette was a bonus. There was a laundrette on our floor, and quiet air conditioning. One block to Bourke street Mall, the tram right at the front door, and a restaurant attached, a great stay, we will come back.

We were three mums spending a long weekend in Melbourne. I cannot speak highly enough of this hotel. Plenty of room for us 3 (including all our luggage and shopping!). Rooms very comfortable and friendly, efficient staff. Location is fantastic, easy walk to great shopping and restaurants. We had a great view of the city skyline from floor 18. All in all I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!
