“Wow - a concert hall with legroom!”

Melbourne Recital Centre

Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Melbourne Recital Centre comprises two of the finest acoustic spaces in the southern hemisphere, carefully crafted to present the best music the world has to offer.

Drawing fundamental influence from the traditional box shape of European concert halls, Elisabeth Murdoch Hall is lined with striking plywood panels of Australian plantation Hoop Pine timber, designed to resemble the back of a beautiful instrument and provide greater acoustic intimacy across the 1000-seat auditorium. The superbly organic acoustics of the hall extend to the Salon, a uniquely intimate 150-seat space that can also act as a companion room to the hall. Comprising a series of diffusing timber panels with tessellated plywood faces tipped in and out to form a modulated wall and ceiling, Percy Grainger’s 1937 graphic score, Free Music No. 2 is inscribed across the surface to inspire players and audiences alike. Swing by, say hello and book tickets to a show. Discover why Melbourne Recital Centre is the Best Place to Hear beautiful music.

“Wow - a concert hall with legroom!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2012

okay, I have long legs. It spoils my enjoyment of a concert when I leave with bruised knees. Happily the architects of the Melbourne Recital Centre have allowed plenty of legroom - no more standing up to let people past either! An excellent facility!

“Excellent acoustics”

Great venue for chamber concerts -- both Elisabeth Murdoch Hall and the Salon. If you can, get tickets up in the circle. The sound is amazing -- so well blended.

An audio treat. Went and saw Chris Botti at the Melbourne Recital Centre and the sound was so pure that it brought tears to my eyes.
