We had a one night stay at short notice and Ian was great in dealing with a few manic, last minute emails.

Located on a quiet road and smelling strongly of the fresh lilies that were placed in our room and on the landing, 169 Drummond street is a beautiful B&B in a fantastic past of town. We enjoyed a glass of wine on our balcony before walking the neighbourhood, enjoying a meal in Lygon Street (busy and touristy but worth exploring) before ending the night with drinks on Brunswick Street.

Ian's languid hospitality was one of the highlights of our time in Melbourne and we'll definitely be back if we can.

It's also worth noting that 169 Drummond Street B&B is advertised as Lesbian and Gay accommodation on their own website, but we were made very welcome as a straight couple.

Ian's strategic location just a stone's throw from Melbourne's infamous Lygon Street is only the beginning of this perfect B&B, also within walking distance of the Queen Victoria Market, Melbourne CBD, the Theatre District, car rental in Franklin Street and everything an educated visitor could ask for. I asked Ian for advice on transport to and from the airport and he was spot on: Don't rent a car because we were arriving late evening and it is impossible to park in the vicinity of Lygon Street (but staying there you just waltz over to some of the best restaurants in town) and anyway it is simple to pick up a car nearby on departure. The rooms are extremely comfortable, spacious with loads of closet space, clean as a whistle. The lovely front sitting room is decorated with magnificent lilies daily and you can sit around the elegant breakfast table and swap stories with your fellow residents. The rates here are a bargain and the perfect combination of value and competitiveness. Just the kind of place you are thankful to find and grateful for its continuing existence. Thank you for a marvelous base to enjoy the best of sensational Melbourne.

Room Tip: Each of the rooms is unique in this classic, beautifully restored terrace. You can rest assured Ian will choose you a beauty.

Ian, the owner, is the sort of person who you feel would make a wonderful friend. He is welcoming and helpful. The house is lovely, and you come and go as you please. Very comfortable. Once we had had the opportunity of seeing most of Melbourne we were so pleased to have chosen Carlton as our location, by far the most vibrant and cosmopolitan of all the areas we saw, and all of this (together with the free tourist bus) just a few minutes from 169. Excellent.

Room Tip: We had the front room which has a balcony looking out onto the street. Nice to sit out, have a drink and watch the world go by.

Ian, the owner, cannot be more welcoming. The guest house has only 4 rooms, but it really feels like home, you make your own breakfast with lots of choices. One street away and you're in the middle of the hustle and bustle of vibrant Lygon Street, with thousands of restaurants - thai, italian, greek, vietnamese, one next to the other, you name it, they have it! Perfect! The guest house is in a really quiet area of town (Carlton), but within walking distance of the CDB (city centre), the amazing Queen Victoria Market and other attractions; I'd recommend this guest house - great value for your money. It does not have a feel of a hotel, more like home, if that's what you're looking for, look no further. Book with Ian.

I have stayed at Drummond street for 7 nights and I could have stayed longer. It is comfortable. It is clean. It is perfectly located to see Melbourne and a few blocks from wonderful Italian places to eat, the best bakery and a wonderland of Italian cookies, pastries, etc. (Brunetti's). What you can expect is a very comfortable place to sleep with a private bath, in a nice house on a very nice street. Ian keeps the place spotless. There is a little kitchen alcove upstairs and downstairs with a refrigerator, a pot to make tea or coffee , choice of teas and cookies for midnight snacks. The breakfast is self -serve, There are yoghurts in the fridge, toast, serials, fruit. It made my time in Melbourne a pleasure, because coming "home" in the evening was so cozy and comfortable. That is where I want to stay if I am in Melbourne again. Thank you Ian.
