“Far from world class”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 February 2013 via mobile

Went with children (boys aged 12-15) and niece (19) who was visiting from Austria.
My niece said the one in Perth was far more interesting.
There was little (if anything) that really held the interest of the boys.
The highlight of the prerenovated aquarium for me was the jellyfish room. This room has been transformed and lost its amazing displays and atmosphere.

To me the penguins looked tragic in their basic enclosure. Some of the larger fish seemed awfully big for their tanks.

When the boys were very young and the aquarium was a novelty for Melbournians, we enjoyed visiting it.

Now they are older and have travelled a little, the aquarium seems small and a little sad.

In conclusion, it maybe great for families with young kids who are happy to splash out on an expensive outing. Not sure for other demographics.

“An adventure for all”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2013

I went to the aquarium with my girlfriend on the fourth of February 2013. We found the price reasonable and there was no wait to get in. An added touch is the photos when you walk in, they later add this into a book for you to take home at a price of $35 which I found overpriced as that is price of admission. We found the aquarium to be big in size with alot of things to see. The penguins were a favourite of ours, so cute! We spent about 2 hours here, they have a cafe but we had already had lunch. All in all a nice day and nice memories to cherish.

“Way too expensive, terrible website.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2013

One of the most expensive attractions in Melbourne, and way over-priced. Compared to the zoo and the museum, it is simply not worth it. The food in the cafes is uniformly terrible, overpriced, very unhealthy and poor quality. Take your own food with you. And don't bother trying to negotiate their website, it is full of flaws. And you can't call the museum on the phone, they don't allow you to speak to anyone, just direct you back to their website. Don't bother.

“Fun visit but super pricey”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 February 2013

I realize everything is expensive in Australia but $70 for 2 adults really stings. Ouch!

That said, the exhibits were good; I particularly enjoyed the penguins. They were spaced apart well, so people weren't crowded around all at once. The circular aquarium room was really cool, especially with the HUGE fish that are bigger/more interesting than the sharks!

We chose to visit the aquarium because we wanted to spend time with friends and entertain their kiddos at the same time. It served our purpose well but if it were just adults I don't know if it would be worth the huge outlay of cash.
