A lot of construction happening , a lot of exhibits , closed , not many AUSTRALIAN animals to see .
The monkeys was alright , as was the birds , the orangatans was a big padock full of ropes , poles etc , but no animals .
you walk forever to see the elephants , past many empty barns & enclosures . there are supposed to be 8 cafe's , we found 2 opened for business - nearly died trying get a coffee , we won't be rushing back .
TO there credit , they are trying to recreate areas as close to natural , for the animals - still a bit disapointed

I have always loved our Zoo in Melbourne. It is in a beautiful area, readily accessible by public transport, which drops you right at the gate or by car, with plenty of parking available. Private coaches have their own parking space too.
From the minute you go through the turnstiles, you are transported into this peaceful and beautiful space. Lots of greenery and lawns, e3asy to follow maps and pathways and enclosures that any animal, bird, reptile or butterfly would enjoy to be in.
The reasonably new Elephant Enclosure is very nicely done, with lots of space for these majestic beasts. Allow a minimum of half a day as it is a large complex and worth seeing it all.

We make many visits to the zoo each year and continue to be knocked out by the high standards here. The enclosures are amazing and it's lovely to see animals in such wonderfully natural environments. The elephant display is stunning. The butterfly house is a must, wear bright clothing and you will have lots of interest from the butterflies!

I have been here many times and also visited zoos overseas. Melbourne Zoo rates extremely well. It is well laid out, clean and tidy. Information about the animals is clear and easy to understand. The zoo educational section run excellent programs. The Australian section is wonderful for overseas visitors - but look for the platypus enclosure - people sometimes miss this. The are places top buy food and souvenirs however the food is a bit on the pricey side.
