“This is a Must!”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

Whether you are from out of town or from overseas, this Zoo is a must see. It has a "hands on" approach in most of the displays including educational shows involving the animals as well, so make sure to get a brochure at the gate for the timings. This a great day out with a mini fair in the summer for the kids. They also have music and various artists performing in the evenings during summer. A big tip, like every other zoo that I have visited around the world, the food vendors sell food at extraordinary prices, so make sure to bring your own. There are lots of gardens and grassed areas for you to stop and have a picnic.

“Nice day out”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

I visited the Zoo with family including 2 children, we did lots of walking comfy shoes needed, there are places to buy food but you have to cue, I would recommend packing a picnic and a blanket to put down on the lawn, I saw lot of others doing this and I wish I had of thought of it.

“Good and Planning to be Better”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

Melbourne Zoo has always been a great visit and there is a focus on redevelopment and some modernisation. For juniors the young keeper play centre is great for them to dress up, see small monkeys indoors and a play space. The new Lemurs island (sealed off section) is great and they get up close and almost personal. The Gorilla's and tree top monkeys always a highlight as is the butterfly house, reptile house and the elephants. The bamboo and wooded area paths around the tree top enclosures are stunning. The seal and penguin area is great but with only 1 seal swimming during the day at our time it lost the impact.
With the Lion park being redeveloped a couple are sitting over in the old big cats area meaning no real big cats (could not sight the snow leopard) and others like panthers, puma's etc no longer there. If it rains there is minimal cover so be prepared and the coffee/food huts can be lengthy in queues and time consuming. Extensive gift shop at the front and a sea focussed smaller gift shop near the penguins is also good.

“Outstanding”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

Absolutely wonderful. It was so real feeling with bamboo etc growing everywhere as you went in and out of the enclosures. It is very well set up but make sure you have plenty of time to look around as you will need all day to see everything
