I was travelling for work and took my 4 & 6 yr old girls with me as it was school holidays. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the lolly jar, toiletries, mini bar, turn down service with macarons were such a treat. Great coffee and breakfast, didn't had to leave the hotel to eat at any time of day. So close to restaurants, shops, ACMI etc. Really homely, warm, comfy beds, free wifi. Will be back for sure - a home away from home. Thank you Lance for looking after us!

Having stayed in many hotels from luxury 5 star to budget the Adelphi is by far one of the best I have experienced. The staff are all attentive, personable and friendly. The fact that everything is included in your room price is such a refreshing change and the attention to detail is amazing. Delicious breakfast and a funky, sophisticated environment to enjoy Melbourne!

Dear Pashendale,

Great to read that you like our unique offering here at Adelphi. We are very proud of how different we are and love it when it is appreciated. Hotel rooms can feel like traps to spend more money at times and we have tried very hard to avoid that.

See you again soon and thanks for the kind words,
Lance

The enticing smell and warm ambiance of the hotel foyer lived up to the expectations set by the Hotel Manager during the booking experience... until the point of check-in everything was perfectly lovely.

Unfortunately once we reached our rooms the keys wouldn't work. Doubt crept in whilst we waited in the hostel-like corridor for this to be rectified. This was followed by dismay when the doors were finally opened to reveal our suites which were sold to us as supposedly similar to a suite at Crown. The reality was they were in fact cheaply furnished connecting rooms, without even tea and coffee facilities. Whilst the bathrooms featured quality toiletries, the mould in the shower recess proved quite a distraction.

We were on a night away with the girls and had opted to pay an increased rate for the more the expensive suites because amongst other things, they included a complimentary mini bar and full breakfast. To a perfectly reasonable person, the term mini-bar would normally include an alcoholic beverage... but no, only orange juice and coke. The included sweets were a nice touch, but a glass of wine would have been more appreciated. And as for the lovely hotel breakfast? Forget it... a small menu was available and whilst ok, it certainly wasn't what one would normally expect from a 4.5 star hotel.

The biggest problem with staying at the Adelphi is the expectation that is set from the Trip Advisor reviews and the accommodation sales staff. More honesty would enable guests to make an informed decision where to stay for what rate and the hotel really should be sold for its great location as that is about all we could rave about.

Room Tip: Don't pay extra for a suite as it still resembles an upmarket backpackers.

Dear Julie M,

I'd like to start by thanking you for the detail you have provided in your review. I'm sorry that your stay did not live up to the expectations set by other travellers. While certainly impressions of anything vary from person to person of most concern to me are the gaps in your stay that are not down to personal taste such as room keys not working, a less than perfectly clean bathroom and an unsatisfactory breakfast.

Our Housekeeping Manager along with our Maintenance Manager have begun a process of in-depth routine maintenance and intense cleaning in all of our rooms and very shortly an espresso coffee machine will be placed in all rooms along with the means to make a delicious cup of tea. Further to this our somewhat obsolete door locks will be upgraded over the next few months to ensure greater reliability and ease of use. Lastly, our breakfast menu will get a complete makeover in time for the New Year.

I am sorry that the minibar was not completely to your liking but to compliment the lack of alcohol we do offer all of our guests a free drink in the bar. I do hope this was extended to you.

Thanks again for sharing your stay and I hope that the changes we are making will persuade you to pay Adelphi another visit. We would certainly like to welcome you back.

Kind regards,
Lance

Very impressed with this hotel and really like the theme of being the place to go (and stay) for the best Desserts in Melbourne. As you walk into the well appointed foyer, you are greeted by a sweet smell of a dessert you are not going to be able to say no to. The front of house staff are excellent. Our room was of good size with comfortable.bed and furniture. Big bowl of lollies was a great addition and the bathroom is also good size. Highly recommend.

Dear chelsea_vela,

I love to read reviews that talk about the 'best hotel service' and also rate 5 out of 5 on the other aspects such as cleanliness, value and location. It makes it clear that while they all matter, it is the people you encounter that bring you back. And we have the best.

Thank you so much and see you back soon,
Lance

The Adelphi is great. We had good service, there is free wifi, mini bar and Happy Lab candy. Rooms are stylish with an industrial accent. I really liked the shower pressure. Didn't use the pool and it wasn't an amazing price but I would recommend.
