A friendly greeting at reception was the start of a pleasant stay at the Swanston Grand Mecure. The room was quite comfortable and well serviced . Special mention should be made of the house cleaning staff member attending our room who made sure all was OK in our room each day. The Concierge Desk was extremely helpful in getting bookings for us at short notice . The hotels location in the CBD, with it's proximity to prime shopping, theatre and major tram services, was an added bonus.

Arriving at the hotel at 9am after an early-morning international arrival, I was surprised (and very happy!) to hear that they would offer me a room already. I was even upgraded to a suite which was divine (large living area with office desk with an equally large bedroom and bathroom off to the side). I was in Melbourne for a wedding and it was very easy location to get around with the trams outside the Grand Mercure doorstep.
Overall, a very good experience and recommend.

The food and service were not the greatest, with the in house dining options very limited and dinner provided dried and flavourless (tray remained outside door in the morning). Avoid a room beside the lifts if possible. The service was slow in some instances and the breakfast dining room was chaotic and appeared to lack staff. Tables remained uncleared and the food was average. This hotel may be reasonable for holiday travellers, but as business traveller, I will be going somewhere else next time. The one saving grace for me was the guys looking after valet parking who did an exceptional job.

This hotel is in a great spot, located between the Bourke Street Mall and Chinatown. We stayed on the tenth floor and were pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was at night. The conceirge was very helpful - recommending places to eat, what trams to catch, etc... The hotel bar was also a nice spot to have a drink before going out (although it is a shame that is not open on Sundays).

When we stay in Melbourne we normally stay here as it is so convenient, staff are very helpful and the rooms are good. Only negative comment we have is that they have changed where they serve the buffet breakfast and the selection is not as good as it was.
