“Average Room”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

The location is probably great if you want to wander around the CBD. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was TINY. Barely enough room for the two of us and the luggage. The bathroom was also TINY. The shower was poor. The beds were comfortable enough. The climate control was noisy and either too cold or too hot, even if you only changed it by one degree. You would not want to stay in this hotel for a long time, and would want to be gone all day everyday as well. Still it was clean and had a guest laundry that was reasonably priced. No WiFi. The reception was spectacular, the room did not live up to the 4-star rating,

Dear 0VaI0,

Thank you for your feedback,

I am disappointed your expectations were not met during your last stay with us. I have passed on your feedback to our Maintenance Manager for his urgent perusal. Just to verify that our hotel is listed as a 3.5 star accommodation and not 4 star.

I am grateful for your words of encouragement on our recption team. Greatly appreciated.
If I can be of any further assistance in the future, please do not hesitate to contact myself directly.

Kind regards,
Alex Mihardja, Operational Project Manager
PS: For your time & effort in submitting your feedback through Tripadvisor, we will be selecting one lucky winner at the end of August to receive a voucher for 1 night accommodation & breakfast valid for 6 months. Thank you and good luck.

1 night - Standard room bed and breakfast $78AUD night with accor sale.

Location is the stand out feature of this hotel. Right on Swanston St (can also access from Little Bourke St). Right next to Emporium Melbourne shopping complex. It shares reception and facilities with Swanston Hotel Melbourne.

Room we got 344 was rather small. Looking at the fire escape map there were many rooms of varying sizes on this floor (ours was the smallest), whether they were standard or superior rooms I am not sure. The room had the standard features (except there was no minibar - however the fridge was present). The room was clean and tidy but just average. Furnishing were not worn but didn't have a modern feel (even Ibis brand has a more modern feel). The bed was comfortable but I have to say the room walls were thin. You could hear people walking up and down the corridor, doors slamming shut, and even plumbing and doors within the next door room. Wifi is complementary in the lobby but charged in the room. (Although you could get the signal in some areas such as the restaurant).

Breakfast at the Louden restaurant was the usual affair. Had the usual hot breakfast and cold breakfast options - enough choice but not extensive. It does lack service - no one offers you coffee/tea, it is a self service affair which is fine (just letting you know).

Staff at front desk were pleasant. Overall the stay was average to good (3.5/5). There was no real dislike of this hotel, then again there was no standout - it just did average. If they were to improve their rooms in particular noise levels and a few minor furnishing changes then it could rate higher.

Room Tip: Away from the elevator - at the end of the passage might be good to reduce corridor traffic noise.

This place has all you need plus 3 restaurants! Th problem is having only 1 wall socket for charging your things amd the paper thin walls.
Otherwise it is well equipped:there is a hairdryer and an iron in the room. Very useful. It is plenty if you just want a place to sleep and is centrally located.

Having had a very poor experience with an Accor property in the same city earlier, we booked this property with some trepidation. The location is incredibly central, tucked up a back lane off one of the central CBD streets. Access was a bit challenging and it could be frustrating during morning peak hours.
The hotel is literally in the middle of Melbourne’s main city shopping precinct and close to a number of good restaurants, theaters and cafes.
On arrival the valet staff whisked the car away and the bell team ushered us into a busy and narrow lobby. Check-in was efficient and friendly.
The executive king room was spacious and our 9th floor position got us up above the worst of the noise. The room faced into the building next door and while the view was not great, the level of noise from the trams and building works in Swanston Street was greatly reduced.
Room facilities were good – three towels for two people and the wardrobe contained an ironing board. The cleanliness of the room was only so-so. The lounge chair had a large stain and the carpet had not seen a shampoo in recent times.
The staff were universally helpful and smiling – a major contrast to our prior Novotel experience.
The hotel caters for large tour groups and this seems to create chaotic scenes in the small lobby during peak periods – so either checkout early or ask for a slightly delayed check-out time to avoid the crush.
So if you can get a room away from the noisy street and are ok with a bit of dirt, the position and staff at this property make a good central city choice.

Room Tip: Gi high and away from Swanston Street.

My husband and I always stay here when we are in Melbourne, yes the some of the rooms are on the small side but for the location of the hotel in the CBD you have put up with a small room for a couple of days and 9 times out of 10 you are not going to spend 24 hours in your room anyway.
