Was meant to stay here for five nights but after one sleepless night due to stupid amounts of noise I left and found another place to stay. This place has had its day. The noise wasn't exterior but interior; the lifts are not at all separate from the hallways, so there is a good chance you will be very close to a lift shaft, and also close to people talking right outside your door as they wait for lift. My room door was also hidden behind a drinks dispenser (this placement of dispensers was truly baffling) and like lots of people have said, there is extremely loud air con.

I tried another room but it was smaller and dingier with an old, un-refurbished bathroom. Both rooms were very tired, very basic and overall pretty depressing.

There are much better hotels for the same price. Hostel prices would be a better reflection of the quality offered here. If central is really all you're after, you're fine, but I suggest going for a brief lovely stroll, experiencing more of Melbourne and finding some better accommodation in the process.

Dear KateNZ13,

I must say I have not read such a negative review of our hotel ever With 330 rooms, some rooms are generally larger and better positioned than others, as well as we still have another 2 floors with the bathroom to be refurbished.
WE apologize for the inconveniences caused and best wishes for future hotel stays.

Kind regards,
Alex Mihardja, Operational Project Manager

Booked on Expedia, I'm a Accor club member, was told immediately that I would not get rewards points because I booked with a 3rd party, usual Accor treating their members like strangers, this hotel is not alone in this, its a company culture thing.

Rooms was so small the door hit the bed, reasonably clean but nothing special.

Pretty average experience all around.

I was reading previous reviews and i too have similar experience in relation to a rusty towel rail! And cut shower curtains. Also the air vent in the bathroom was very dusty. To make it easier for the manager it is in room 1146. On check out i was a bit disapointed as one guest asked if there was anywhere close to have breakfast? The dark man (i assume he was indian) working behind the reception desk said yes there is it is down the hallway to the left and up the stairs. Well my point is why didnt the guy at reception offer the cheaper breakfast vouchers? Surely he knows about them,as he works there and they are advertised on the reception counter! Dont try and rip the guests off other people can see whats going on. I did find it a bit noisy aswell water pipes, other guests slamming there doors and also the weird guest lift because you enter and exit from opposite sides of the lift too bad if you have alot of bags as you have to get the first people in the lift to exit first then you get out then they have to get back in to continue to the floor they want. Location wise it is good, the buffet breakfast was fair would have been good to see porridge on in the winter months as melbourne can have cold mornings and not everyone wants bacon, eggs, sausages ,hashbrowns&tomatos. Also a sign next to the scrambled eggs would have been good also advising guests that poached eggs can be cooked to order.

Dear Gav73,

Thank you for your constructive review. I will be sure to pass on yourfeedbacks to relevant Department Heads for their urgent attention.

In regards to the breakfast situation, it is never our intention to rip off any guests. Like you said the signage regarding the special price breakfast is on display, and that guest's query was about the location for breakfast. Porridge (Congee) with its trimmings are indeed available on the buffet daily. Also there is a massive sign on the wall as you enter the Louden Kitchen advising patrons that poached and fried-eggs are available to order.

Thank you again for your feedback.

Kind regards,
Alex Mihardja, Operational Project Manager

The Mercure Welcome is a basic hotel, good reception staff and a reasonable Breakfast. If you are looking for luxurious accommodation with sweeping views of Melbourne this is not the place for you, but if you are looking to put your head down in clean room in a great location this hotel will fit the bill.

This is a great little place in the heart of the city, it's a easy place to stay as you can walk every were. Use the valet parking system that they have as it easy and convenient to use. Rooms are small but clean and modern.
