“4/5 as a conference venue!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2014

Attended a conference at this hotel recently. The venue was very comfortable, warm and the food excellent. It's in a good location. The waiting and bar staff are efficient although the reception staff were not terribly friendly. A snack was very kindly arranged by the bar staff slightly after the kitchen had officially closed which was really appreciated.
The hotel rooms are a bit dated and needing a refresh and could be cleaner. Old tissues etc under the beds, out of date snacks and thick dust behind a chair was very concerning.

This hotel is ok to stay at. My room was clean, comfortable and there was plenty of space. It has been some time since the hotel has seen any sort of renovations, so it is a bit worn out looking. The carpets in the hall ways are heavily stained and this does give a bad impression of the place. The maintenance man who helped me sort out my safe was very helpful and said they were replacing the safes soon, so maybe they will be doing other work too? The safe was free by the way, which is always a bonus. There is only wifi in the reception area but this is as advertised so isn't a surprise, just a nuisance as I was contacting my daughter through the internet so had to hang around downstairs. The staff on reception were very friendly and helpful, so were the cleaners who did a great job. For me, the hotel is too far from the centre of Melbourne. It is around the corner from several tram routes and only a few stops away from the CBD, but I moved on to a hotel in Spencer St and it makes a big difference to be able to walk to the shops and places of interest, especially late at night when the trams stop as cabs are expensive and seem to vary so much in price. If you do intend to stay here make sure you negotiate a good deal; around 115 - 120 dollars a night is about right.

We have stayed here twice now, and would again.
For the price we payed it was good valve, with breakfast and parking included.
Staff friendly.
Yes it might be needing a bit of a freshen up in the rooms but was bed comfortable.
Breakfast was great, with plenty choice of food.

I visit Melbourne often, and very rarely stay out of the city. So this was new for me. Hotel was easy to find from the Tram stop. Right across the road from Albert Park lake on busy St. Kilda Road. Check in was quick and easy. And staff were overly nice and helpful. The room itself was decent. Older in style, but I don't mind that. It was clean. Had room service delivered. Menu was scarce, and prices were really expensive for the food they provided. Downstairs at the bar, Happy hour went from 5-7 I think. 4.50 VB stubbies. Free wifi access in the foyer and bar. Would consider staying again, but I'll definitely explore the area more next time!

Very disappointed in this hotel. All of the features were out dated. Old style bar fridge, built in 2ft high radio that didn't work, tv sitting in a cupboard... The "view" from our "Superior Queen Room" was of the building next door. The car park was awful and I was concerned about the cleanliness of the shower.

The only positive aspect of this hotel was the lovely gentlemen who checked us in.

Would not stay again - and recommend that you don't.

Do not take any notice of the website. It is bright clean and fresh looking.
The rooms are anything but. The carpet is filthy, walls marked and chipped. The voile curtains were grey and visibly marked with solid stains.the beds had none of the finishes or trims as shown in the website. Our room was to be king single but turned out to be single beds. It was a tremendous dissapointment
To help overcome the dissapointment the staff were helpful and obliging. Our curtains were not able to be changed as requested but were washed. This did make a huge difference and we were at least able to touch them.
Definately not worth staying. The dirty, marked, skuffed and chipped mauve corridors are an instant 'Warning" If not for pre-paying and some pleasant staff would not have stayed.

Room Tip: all the same.

A little worn and dated, but rooms were large, and beds very comfortable. I had a high room with a pleasant view across the park. Bathroom space easily enough for two. A well-stocked bar, though oddly, no bottle opener. The TV setup is weird – I couldn’t change channels without essentially exiting the system? Only paid WiFi in rooms, but you can get access from the lobby. I did not eat in their restaurant, but the bar food was excellent, and relatively inexpensive. A little far to walk to the city (about 30 minutes), but convenient to trams and buses on St. Kilda Road. Not bad for the price.
