“Excellent Staff & Excellent Hotel! Love you all!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 March 2012

Thanks to John & Ourania for making my stay a blast. They upgraded me to a really awesome room on the 3rd floor - the only downside being it facing Spencer Street and the noise was unbearable. Perhaps the hotel can invest in double glazing their windows! Am very pleased, one of the best hotels ever, plus its value for money. I will definitely be back! And recommend your establishment to one & all! Well done guys.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade, no harm done!

stayed here with my mum and only stayed one night out of the 3 we were supposed to, got to the room which was tiny, no where to put bags so they were out of the way, not much room around the sides of the bed, the bathroom was ridiculously tiny, the sink was extremely small and when you tried to wash your face water went everywhere, the shower was small and when you had a shower water went everywhere, it was a shoe box, then we went to breakfast which was not great either, very poor selection, we ended up buying something extra, but we were so disappointed that we decided we could not stay another night in the shoe box, so we rang the holiday inn which was next door to find out if they had a vacancy they did, so we went to reception to tell them that we were leaving and couldnt stay, they werent helpful or considerate as usual, they were slow and not helpful, as we were checking out we asked about a refund and were told that they do not do it there, we would have to ring up, which we couldnt be bothered to deal with them again, we then left and went next door and had an amazing stay there, would never stay here again, the only good thing is that it is close to transport

Room Tip: stay somewhere else

Dear littlelozza91
Thank you for taking the time to write to us about your recent stay
It is disappointing to hear that you had found your stay with us to be so unsatisfactory, and we would like to apologize for any distress caused during your short time with us. The Pensione Melbourne prides itself on providing both clean and comfortable accommodation for everyone, and as such we have many different room types available throughout the property. I am confident that if our friendly team had been notified of your discomfort at the time of check in, they would have certainly assisted you with moving to one of our more spacious rooms.
Should you ever wish to return to us in the future, please feel free to enquire about a much larger room so we may have the opportunity to demonstrate the usual high level of detail and comfort we aim to provide for everyone who comes to stay with us here at the Pensione Melbourne.
Warm Regards

Aside from the good breakfast and central walkable location I was very disappointed in this Hotel. I'd booked a studio apartment in their sale but it turned out the studio wasn't included in the sale rate.

We were given the smallest 'double room' known to man- the view was a brick wall and someone else's window. We were there for four nights and there was no way two people could have lived there comfortably.

We 'upgraded' for an extra $30 to get a bigger room - it was better, much more space and a separating wall between the double and single bed. But tired and grubby.

The bathroom was tiny and let's just say hadnt seen bleach in a while. The shower curtain was a biology lesson in itself and we asked twice for it to be replaced, which it was but to one that was only mildly better. Apparently the cleaning is 'out sourced'. There was an orange ring mark round the plug - build up of soap etc residue- and the tiles in the shower were slippy with grease. I would suggest wearing flip flops when you get in.

The staff behind the desk were nice and helpful, and also apologetic about the cleaning, or lack of. I was told they'd speak to the cleaning company.

Some pluses: The breakfast is plentiful and fresh: cheese, fruit, bread and meats. The location is very close to the main bus and train terminal. Other than that I'm afraid I don't have anything more positive to say!

Dear AntoniaB
Thank you for taking the time to write to us about your recent stay.
Firstly we’d like to say how disappointed we are that you found your stay with us to be unsatisfactory. The Pensione Melbourne prides itself on its charm and comfort and we are sad to hear that you did not find it so.

Thank you also for the feedback in regards to your bathroom. We have taken it upon ourselves to follow up with our housekeeping teams in regards to this who will now be more vigilant in terms of bleaching the shower curtains and also steam cleaning the showers.
It is great to hear however that you found our team to be both friendly and helpful, and we are glad that we were able to assist you in the best way possible.

We hope that we may have the opportunity to look after you in the future and to demonstrate our usual high level of attention to detail and comfort.
Warm Regards

Sure the bathroom is a very small cupboard (it probably was a wardrobe once) and the sink is so small you'll probably miss when spitting out your toothpaste but what does that matter? So much better value than other decent double rooms in the CBD of Melbourne. Staff were also very nice and helpful. Would definitely recommend this one for anyone visiting the city.

We stayed here in April 2011. Our first stay in Australia. We arrived at the hotel at about 2am so pretty tired from our flights so a welcoming receptionist was good to have. We stayed on the third floor at the back of the hotel. Not much of a view but it was quiet which I prefer. The room was smaller than we expected it to be but it was spot on for what we needed as we weren't spending much time there. The bed was comfy enough, nice big shower. Although one thing in the bathroom, the shelf above the sink was a bit of a pain as we kept banging our heads after brushing our teeth. The hotel was in an excellent location, 5 minutes walk to the bus stationn, a quick turn left and you are right on the main street into the centre of town, also tram stops everywhere. Spot on location wise. I would stay there again.

Thank you for your lovely feedback!
We are delighted to hear how much your enjoyed your time with us, especially for your first trip to Australia!
Our apologies however for any difficulties you faced with the bathroom, we are currently in the process of removing the shelving above the sink to allow for that extra amount of comfort and space, so by the time you come and visit us again this should all be complete.
We look forward to welcoming you back on your next trip!

We stayed at the Pensione 25 Feb for 2 nights. After a long day with flight delays we were greeted at reception with a warm welcome and an unexpected up grade to a triple double. The room was on the small side (not tiny) it could of done with a chair especially to use at the counter. We were on the 2nd floor and were pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was (after reading some of the other reviews).Rooms were cleaned each day and restocked with coffee etc. Great location to trams, Southern Cross station and the Convention Centre, The cafe for breakfast was good and included in the deal. The staff were friendly and helpful and the free use of umbrellas was greatly appreciated. We will stay here again without hesitation.

1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 February 2012

Stayed Saturday 18th Feb (chambers), on arrival my wife and I was given room 12 on the ground floor. The room had a digusting wee smell, and we walked in and literally turned around and walked out. I complained to the reception and they moved us to room 3 on the ground, this room was very small. No windows and again the smell wasn't much better, we asked to upgrade to a better room, but was told all rooms are the same standard. Toilet and shower are very cramp, bed was quite small.
Walk to the casino was quite close, and we went and had a great night with some friends. However once we got back, our room was next to the U-Bar (gay pub/club), and the music kept us awake till 2.30am.
What happend next is the first for us, at around 3am, our door opened!! My wife and I both woke and thought that I had gone to the toilet, and I had thought the same with her. It wasn't until we both said we hadn't that we realised someone had opened the door. I was actually laying naked in the room which was quite embarrassing.
I spoke to the reception at about 7am the next morning and told the young lady on reception that someone had opened our door. She said no one would have, however someone opened that door, I was quickly offered 2 free breakfasts to usher me away from reception. We believe a member of staff opened the door, as they might have thought the room was empty! However we cannot prove anything.
I have stayed in a few hotels in Melbourne and this is really a poor standard hotel, unless the rooms are better on the higher floors, then its a shabby hotel with staff who try to come into your room. I am more than happy to discuss this with anyone from the hotel regarding my comments.

Room Tip: Stay away!
