We booked thus hotel for a short trip to Melbourne on arrival we were greeted a a very friendly receptionist who welcomed us warmly. We were up graded to a bigger room on arrival. The room was very comfortable and clean location was great and very close the the train station and trams pass by right outside. Ideal location for shops and sight seeing all with in walking distance. The restaurant on site had lovely food and a very friendly girl working there. We will certainly stay again on our next visit to Melbourne

Room Tip: Good location

A beautiful boutique hotel in a great spot. I chose the Petite Double Room, which is perfect for 1 or 2. The MicroCloud bedding was heavenly, easily the 2nd best hotel bed I've slept in. Staff are A1.

Room Tip: Lots of variety of room types. My room was fairly close to Spencer Street, a very busy street but I...

Pensione is a small budget hotel on Spencer Street. Very helpful staff. Clean room and wonderful bed, best bed in a hotel in ages. Great location on all the tram and train routes. Excellent value for money. Got a great bed and breakfast deal as we stayed 6 nights.

Room Tip: Ask for the one and only small suite on level 4.

Great location just about 5 mins from southern cross station and the Skybus airport bus drop/pick off point. But the rooms are very small. I stayed with a friend we had 2 single beds and she couldn't walk past my bed without shuffling sideways.. it's fine if it is for 1 person but tight for 2 people.
Our bathroom sliding door wouldn't close we told reception twice but it didn't get fixed. we had to push a stool against the door to get privacy. very disappointing even for the wotif deal. I have stayed in better rooms for about the same price. Don't think I would stay again.

Room Tip: ask If you are getting a small room or not. If small think twice.

Dear Poorany,
Thank you for reviewing your recent stay.
Firstly please allow us to apologize for any distress you may have experienced in regards to your bathroom door. This is certainly not the norm at the Pensione and I will be following up with our maintenance teams to ensure that more through room checks are done on a daily basis.
In regards to your room we do have varying room sizes available as well as the opportunity to upgrade to something larger. I am confident had our friendly team been advised of your discomfort they would have certainly assisted by showing you several other options.
We would certainly relish the opportunity to accommodate you again, should you ever wish to stay with us please contact our friendly reservations team who will certainly ensure you are placed in a much larger room for your next stay.
Warm Regards

I now see little reason to stay elsewhere when visiting Melbourne, which I may need to do more frequently for a while. This hotel is so convenient in all sorts of ways, near the station, including the airport bus terminal, and near many tram routes. It's also easy to get to the middle of the CBD on foot. As ever, the room was spotless, with an extra single bed as it happened, and a very comfortable double bed. Excellent toiletries, small but well-planned bathroom, iron, ironing board, hairdryer, kettle, tea and coffee, fridge, TV, and heating. No problem for luggage to be stored. My only criticism was that the café arrangements seem to have become a bit slapdash. On returning from a tiring medical appointment in the suburbs and a train journey back, at 8 pm, I found a notice to the effect that the café was closed. Staff were still there, and willingly arranged to deliver a meal to my room (no room service charge), but the café advertises as being open "till late". The next morning the sign saying it was closed was still there at breakfast time, though I went in and found that the buffet had been set out (though staff were not visible). This needs to be sorted out so people can be confident of being able to eat in-house when they need to, not to mention encouraging others in to eat at the café. But all-in-all, an excellent stay.

I recently stayed at the Pensione Hotel which is in a really handy spot if you are going to the Etihad Stadium or the Crown Casino.
The room was small - not a problem, the bed was very comfortable as were the pillows BUT the bathroom was ridiculous. The door in to the shower was so small I could hardly fit through it. I had to cover myself in soap suds to slide in... only joking but it would have been easier to do so.
It would be easier for them to hang a shower curtain to get in and out. The basin was the smallest basin I have ever seen but big enough for cleaning teeth and washing hands.

Room Tip: Do not go for the petite double room

Dear natasha1cat,
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay.
We are thrilled to read how much you enjoyed our location and thank you for the feedback in regards to our bedding – they certainly are quite comfy!
Our apologies however for any distress you may have experienced in regards to our bathroom sizes. Whilst we can certainly understand that the bathrooms are quite compact mainly due to the heritage listing of the building, there are several Petite Double rooms which feature a wider door space for the shower. Should you ever wish to stay with us again please feel free to contact our friendly reservations team who will certainly ensure you are placed in one of these rooms.
We hope to have the opportunity to look after you again sometime in the near future.

Great location is its strength. The rooms are tiny, far too small. If you just need a bed to sleep thats all it is good for. The hold of $100 on your credit card for 6 days is outrageous given they have no mini bar.

Dear sloth111,
Thank you for talking the time to write a review.
Please accept our apologies if you found your room with us to be too compact for your stay. The Pensione Hotel has many different room types available to suit all budgets and needs and I am confidant had the friendly reception team been alerted to your distress they would have certainly assisted you.
In regards to the credit card preauthorisation this is a common practice amongst all hotels within Australia, some even taking higher amounts. This is to cover any extras or incidentals that any of our guests may have and all reception staff are trained to explain this procedure thoroughly to avoid any confusion. The Pensione also offers the alternative of paying this deposit in cash or eftpos, which is refunded immediately checkout. Should you have any other concerns please do not hesitate to contact us directly and we can certainly chase up any hold with your bank immediately. I eagerly await your call.
Warm Regards
