We vist Melbourne regularly and in the past have stayed at the Crown but we now consider The Intercontinental our home opting to stay there on the last three occasions. The building epitomises the character that is Melbourne. Accompanied by the high level of service in which always contribute to making our trips to Melboure an even more enjoyable experience. I would like to make special mention and big thankyou to Guest Relations Manager Kishor, who always makes us feel so welcome accomodating for all the family. He sets a high level of individual customer service in which is evident through out all staff espicially those in the club lounge. Also a big thanks to Concierge James who on numerous occations has gone out of his way secure tickets to major events. Thanks you all for a fantastic stay. See you on our next visit. Sam, Flora and family.

Lovely hotel - perfect for romance. Historic, ambient hotel with an intimate bar and great buffet breakfast. Knowledgable and helpful concierge. Room service steak sandwhich is tops. A little bit of a walk (5 mins) to the Bourke St mall (mainly for shopping). Don't miss a trip to Haigh's (chocolates) on the ground floor of the hotel. Cheap weekend rates.

Both me and my wife selcted the Rialto hotel because of the Intercontinental brand and we found the service to be fantastic, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel itself was not busy and in a quiet part of the city a few blocks walk to the main shopping areas. The rooms were modern and comfortable which ensured a good night sleep.

We stayed here for four nights on the Club Floor and enjoyed the experience very much. The Club food was good and the lounge well appointed. Breakfast was very good and worth the extra costs of upgrading to Club status. We like the position of the hotel as we could walk to everything in town easily.
The room was huge and well appointed. The bathroom was good with a large bath and separate shower.
All in all a great stay!

The hotel is in a lovely old building with a lot of charm. We found that many cab drivers knew it as the Rialto rather than the Intercontinental. It is on Collins, but several blocks down from the main shopping and dining section, so it is a quieter location. The rooms were not large, but were very comfortable, although lacking in storage/drawers for a long stay. Housekeeping was excellent, but the front desk staff was inconsistent. James at the Concierge desk was extremely helpful (we visited him almost every morning!) and made many helpful arrangements for us - a big help on a tightly scheduled trip!! The bar and restaurant were extremely quiet in the evenings, so this would not be the place if you are looking for a high-energy atmosphere. But it offers a great night's sleep in a building that has a beautiful setting.

Second time my partner and I have spent a break at The Rialto in Melbourne. The great service and friendly staff were the main reason we returned. They even remembered us in the club lounge after our first visit. Our room was spacious and well appointed, the bed was so comfortable and HUGE. I've stayed in numerous other hotels in Melbourne and this is now my first choice. Make sure you book a club room, its worth the extra cost as you get full access to the club lounge. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Club rooms are the way to go as you get breakfast, morning and afternoon tea, and pre dinner drinks...

My partner and I had the pleasure of a lovely stay at the Intercontinental Rialto for our second time. On both occasions, the hotel far exceeded our expectations. Our first stay in late last year was in a Premium Spa room which was warm, comfortable and well appointed. It did not disappoint and the Club Intercontinental service was friendly and generous. On this occasion, we returned and the premium king room once again did not disappoint. The only small issue was that the key cards (though available as a priority club and privilege member were ready on arrival) were incorrectly keyed and locked us out on the second day. Complimentary fruit and water was present and this is a nice addition. The Intercontinental staff at the front door remembered us by name for no other reason than checking us in. Again the staff in the Club Intercontinental, recognised us - namely Kishor and the young female guest relations staff on Sat 14/1 afternoon shift from our previous visit. This kind of personal service is hard to find. The food and service was excellent. Another tiny gripe is the evening Drinks service was advertised till 2030 however when we arrived at 1945 we were told that it was closed or closing - but the lounge would be open till 2030. A small issue. They quickly had no issue in very promptly accommodating us and providing canapes and drinks despite this. Perhaps clarification on the arrival letter is required. When we required a few bandaids/plasters after a long day walking -they were promptly dispatched to the room. Food was of an excellent quality here as was the pool and gymnasium area. Thank you for a lovely stay. Keep up the great work.

Celebrated as one of the world’s hottest and best new hotels by both Conde Nast Traveler and Wallpaper* magazines, InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto is a fascinating example of the city’s fusion of old and new. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto represents the resurrection of one of the city’s last remaining examples of 19th Century Victorian Gothic architecture into a timeless and inspiring luxury hotel. Its city centre location on Collins Street is at the heart of the laneways, attractions and experiences that give Melbourne its international appeal. Behind the Gothic façade is a sleek yet intimate hotel that is home to two very different bars – the Bluestone Wine Lounge and the Market Lane Bar – and a variety of dining establishments, including Alluvial Restaurant and Guy Grossi’s exciting new venture, Merchant. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto has also teamed up with Shannon Bennett, providing valet parking for his new Vue de monde restaurant on the 55th floor of the adjacent Rialto building. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto’s warmth and exceptional service belies its size, with more than 250 guest rooms across two soaring wings, including a stunning collection of suites as well as the exclusive Club InterContinental lounge and facilities for premium guests. The hotel’s rooftop is also a destination itself, home to the kitchen’s own market garden and beehives, the Scandinavian-inspired swimming pool and the glass-encased fitness centre overlooking the Melbourne cityscape. Also available is the luxurious candle-lit East Day Spa offering east-meets-west treatments and therapies. Before guests arrive, they can take advantage of the concierges’ passion and Insider knowledge of the city. Chief Concierge, James Ridenour and his team are the key to authentic experiences of the real Melbourne and everything the city has to offer. ... more   less
