We didn't expect too much, as the queen room we booked was quite cheap. First thing we noticed on entering, was the badly bent condition of the venetian blinds ... looked awful. Bad stain on the carpet. Bed was 2 singles pushed together, which wasn't comfortable. No valance on the bed ensemble base. The bedside table and other table were stained and had cigarette burns, so in general the room seemed really shabby. Bearing in mind the price, the room was adequate for our 3 night stay, but I wouldn't return. No complaints about the staff, they were ok. Shampoo (no conditioner) & soap were replenished daily. Handy to the Victoria Market.

Where to begin... we booked and paid a couple of months in advanced - 2 Queen bedrooms and 2 single bedrooms for 4 nights ( 2 x couples in our group and 2 single friends). Checked in around 10pm they only had one of the rooms we booked and told us they overbooked and don't have the rooms we had asked for. The receptionist ended up putting us in one of the apartment rooms ( obviously a last resort for customers). So much for a 2 year anniversary, we had to share the room with my partners brother - Receptionist was closed when we went back downstairs to contest the situation. The room was dirty, smelly, no sheets, the bed was two single beds put together, we had to wash up our cups (otherwise we would be charged $25 ontop of the $110 we were already paying a night), TV reception was appalling, right next to the lifts and the balcony was dodgy, we also got stuck in the lift for 1 hour and half. We spoke to the receptionists every day while we were staying there to get it sorted, they weren't willing to compensate. Terrible experience.

Room Tip: If you are staying here do not stay in room 830 and 802!

Nice reception. Our room was standard. We paid for a 2 bedroom standard studio with a 3 single bed config for 2 nights. On arrival (10pm) we were told that they hadn't split the queen bed so they would bring up a temporary single bed for the night & then split the bed the next day. We split the bed ourselves as the temp bed would have to go in the lounge & everyone had to walk through there to get to the bathroom meaning that person would be woken all the time.

No top sheets on the beds & they were as hard as the floor. No flannels. No milk in the fridge. No coffee. Shower was grubby & needed a good scrub, bathroom sink was gross & also needed a good clean. TV didn't work properly - kept cutting out on every channel.

On the second night 2 of us were awoken at 11pm by the people underneath us who were yelling & screaming & laughing (I was even wearing earplugs), also we had our window open & since they were smoking our room stunk of smoke. I phoned reception who didn't really seem to care at all.

Not sure how they managed a 4 star rating at all. I would say a 2 star. Won't be going back.

We did not book this accommodation but ended up there by default.
We had booked one night at Frasers Place in Melbourne which looked clean& modern, in quiet location & had good reviews. On the morning of the day we were to book in we received a phone call saying that they could no longer accommodate us but had arranged equivalent 4 star accommodation for us. First hotel we were sent to didn't know anything about us then we were directed to Nova Star Gate.
Staff were pleasant & gave us an upgrade to a bigger room with a courtyard.
I was totally dismayed when we opened the apartment door!! Shabby, dated, stained carpet, big burn holes in laminex on kitchen bench, crack in bathroom sink & the courtyard viewed through dirty sliding doors was filthy & had no furniture . Worst accommodation experience!

Booked a room with a double bed to find they had just put two single beds together and chucked a sheet over the top. Tv was only working on one channel which was channel 9 so i didnt bother since the ashes were on worrying about getting it fixed. Close to queen Vic Market which was the only saving grace.

Room Tip: Alot better available for same price in the area
