“Ok for a short stay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2014 via mobile

Stayed for 3 nights. Luckily we were out most of the time. Bed was two singles pushed together but we were pleased with that considering we were supposed to have a double. Cooking facilities are basic but adequate for a short stay. (Not that we acually cooked anything) The view from our apartment on the third floor was rather bleak, so ask for a higher floor. The location was quite good and was handy to everything. Staff were reasonably helpful. If we were paying full price for the apartment I would have been quite disappointed but it was realtively inexpensive so we were satisfied. You pay for what you get.

We got a booking done by a friend and not known to us he sad it was 4 star, well not for me it was not he opted out of the trip and we could not cancel this place.
the beds where 2 single beds pushed together the shower was small and the place was rundown.
for a extra $5 we could have stayed in a 4 to 5 star place.Everything was like a backpackers. Location vise was good place.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere till they renovate this place.

This hotel has a good location...within easy walking distance of the town centre and transport. The room was on the small side, but clean and adequate for a short stay. The rates were reasonable and the staff friendly.

The hotel is located just around the corner from Queen Victoria Market so is really well-placed for shopping, good food and coffee which we took advantage of while we were there.
The hotel has good parking options for those with cars and we found staff friendly and helpful which is all good. Small supermarkets, trams and railway station (Melbourne Central) all close by make this a good location to get out and about.
The downside was that the room was cramped, in need of an upgrade and could have been cleaner, the towels supplied did not look clean and the room smelt as if there had been someone cooking there. Luckily there was a small balcony so we could get some fresh air.
If noise is an issue then this could be a problem for some people with sleep as there was a lot of street action overnight and early morning though it didn't bother us so much.

I stayed at the Nova Stargate as I was arrending a two-day seminar at the University of Melbourne. The hotel is a short walk from the Graduate School of Education which is where I was going, with the main campus about 5 minutes further on. Queen Victoria Market is right down the road, and Melbourne Central is about 5 minutes away.
The hotel doesn't seem to have any wifi which is a major downside in my books. Staff were friendly enough, room service is provided by an outside company and while expensive the quality was excellent.
I was in a double appartment (room 405), the bed was quite comfortable, kitchen adequete and it even had a small balcony.
Not fancy at all, but suitable for a short stay if you are planning on using the hotel for sleep only!

We stayed at the Nova Star Gate for 3 nights over the Australia Day weekend. Location was great for our requirements, just around the corner from the Victoria Markets, and only a couple of blocks to the free City circle tram and also Swanston Street. Check-in was quick and easy and the reception staff friendly. The apartment itself was relatively basic, a bit tired and fairly small, however, we were not there much so it was quite adequate for our requirements. We were lucky not to need to use the airconditioner, as when it was on, we found it a bit noisy. The king sized bed was 2 single beds pushed together so you couldn't sleep in the middle of the bed, which we would normally do. The bed was made European style, a bottom sheet and then the doona (no top sheet), which we didn't like, however, we requested another sheet and this was supplied with no drama. Overall, the apartment was quite comfortable and adequate for our requirements and we would probably staty there again.

For $205 including car parking we felt ripped off. For the price we payed we found the hotel was unclean, falling apart and had a lack of facilities.

We stayed at the nova star last week and this is what we thought.

CHECKIN- Was quick and easy. Bit confusing with the whole key ect. The lobby is average.

CAR PARK- Tight to say the least. We had a Pajero and we could barely fit it in. The only way we did was after a 15 point turn. There is also not enough spots.

ROOM- The kitchen is well stocked and has everything that you need. However the cups were not clean.

The lounge is ready to be thrown out. There is 2 small tub chairs and 1 larger one. The cushions have been bent out of shape and when lifting them off the base of the couch is broken and has rubbish in it.

The beds are comfortable but there are no sheets. Just a fitted sheet which the elastic has worn out and the doona.

The bed side tables have stains and chips. In the drawn we found A USED BANDAID!!! Yuck.

The bathroom is well stocked and appears clean apart from hairs in the shower.

Checkout took four seconds and were we glad to leave. Then we went down the road to the Radisson which is a true hotel. with no used band aids or hairs.

Nova Star gate management- Room 407 needs a new couch, bedside table and phone.
