“Great location in the heart of Melbourne”

We were offered an upgrade, to one of the higher floors which had an interesting view of the shopping courtyard below. Unfortunately this shopping complex is undergoing renovations and will be closed for some time.
Lovely spacious room, modern fittings, comfy bed, and clean. Only negative was that room service was a bit slow. Great location in Melbourne especially for those who love their shopping.

Room Tip: Not sure what rooms to ask for as we were upgraded.

We stay every year during the Formula 1 weekend.
Location is absolutely Melbourne central - close to everything.
Check in is speedy and the rooms are plenty large enough for 3 people. Rooms are always clean and well maintained. Having a bath and not just a shower is a real plus when travelling with children.
Room rack rate may look a bit higher than some of the competition, but a second bed or sofa bed is no extra cost (others charge $50+/nite during this peak week) and wifi is also free.
Room service menu is adequate but not inspiring (show me one that does inspire) but satisfies after a long flight or a long day in the sun at Albert park.
Despite published check-in time, our international flights arrive in the early am and staff have been very good at getting us into a room asap. This touch is much appreciated by weary travellers.
Reception staff always greet you as you transit from the accommodation elevators to the street level elevators.
Having had occasion to need urgent document printing to meet international time zone cutoffs, reception staff went above and beyond to help us out.
Breakfast is a comprehensive buffet with plenty of options for various tastes among a group.
Bell staff have always assisted when handling a holidays worth of bags into a cab to or from the airport.
Over many years we have never had cause to complain about anything.

The staff were good, polite and helpful and the location was fantastic, right in the middle of the city. We stayed in a base level type room and it was quite small however not too tiny for a couple. The air conditioning was pretty extreme overnight, we tried turning it to the lowest temperature but the air flow out of the vent was pretty strong and we both woke up in the morning feeling very dried out, I had to wake up in the night to have water because my throat was so dry. Also the lighting in the bathroom was weird which made it hard to do makeup in the bathroom mirror, and there were no ceiling lights in the actual room which meant it was dimly lit, so hard to do makeup there either. There was also a shortage of included toiletry items, no body lotion and a combined shampoo and conditioner which isn't great for long hair. However overall the room was quite nice and modern, there was an awesome armchair that was super comfortable and the location was really good, as well as friendly staff.

location is very good. walk in shower is a bit of miss because of the design, water got out of the shower area. The lights need to be a bit brighter, I understand that we are trying to reduce the energy but having the control to adjust the brightness helps.

I stay regularly, really like the larger rooms that are closer to the lifts. Room service menu could be better (no burgers or fries on the sleepwalker menu?!!). The staff are always really friendly, I just get the feeling that there aren't enough of them. Buffet breakfast service struggles if there's more than a couple of diners, I've never managed to get eggs made to order because the chef is always run off his feet, and it always takes ages to get a coffee. Night time at the bar experiences similar issues- crowded bar and a single bartender. A few more staff would make a big difference.

From arrival the staff were excellent, book in was fast with free gifts for the kids. The Room was modern and clean. Great size bath room. Breakfast buffet was great value, great coffee, fabulous food. Novotel on Collins 5 star. Central to everything in Melbourne. Tram stop out the front. Great lane way cafes across the road

This hotel can survive totally on the brilliant location. The parking at the front and entrance is appalling but is outside control of the hotel. Concierge does an amazing job of sorting out the chaos and they do have a valet service. To park your car but at $38 per day is a bit rich. That's half as much as it costs to hire the car for a day... Just to park it. The staff at the hotel are amazing and nothing is too much trouble. Had numerous problems with the phone not connecting to housekeeping. I reported it to reception 3 times but as of today 04.08.14 it still doesn't work from our room anyway. Had quite a few problems with reception understanding the duration of our stay. We confused the issue by negotiating extensions on our original booking but it still appeared to be a bit of the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing. Monica in the Restaurant needs a special mention. She is a gem and makes you feel you are having a meal with friends. The rooms are a little under lit and a tad small. We had the deluxe king so can't imagine how small the standard room was. Overall I would recommend staying here but be prepared to negotiate prices as the rack prices or too expensive for what is offered. GREAT SERVICE AND GREAT LOCATION.
