“Not a $700 luxury escape”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

The Melbourne Parkview is undoubtedly a superior hotel.
Accommodation: Beds very comfortable and room very clean though maintenance to a bench was needed in the corridor that lead to the bathroom. It had been sat on and everything slid off it. The bathroom was very tiny - so much so that to get into it necessitating entering shower alcove. Incidentally we are not large people! There was the usual supply of soap, shampoos etc which for the weekend stay was useful though the quality of the supplies were only average and tissues ran out and were not replenished.
Staff: Very professional and obliging with the exception of an assistant manager who was clearly disengaged.
Food: Very good; The breakfast buffet was stunning especially the freshly squeezed orange juice -do it yourself. We ate twice in the restaurant at night because the first experience was so good.
Location: superb. trams to the city at the door
Most of my disappointment lies in this hotel's participation in the 'luxury escapes' promotion and that the accommodation did not measure up. The photograph on the web site showed a room with two queen sized beds and correspondingly larger than that we were allocated on the first floor. The amount we paid (50% discount) for the two nights seemed to be what the accommodation was worth. In that same 'luxury escape' there were four' two for one's' which proved to be all offsite, one had finished and the balance available through other means like the daily tram pass.

Room Tip: Being on the first floor is always a bit noisier, than further up. Also you would get the city views...

I have stayed here a number of times privately on weekends. The combined package of a room, breakfast, WiFi and parking suits my budget. What I like is the good sized room with a very comfortable bed. This time I stayed on business in a even larger corner room with a view for a the week. My only criticism is that the evening restaurant menu could have more depth as one runs out of choices in a week. Note I particularly liked squeezing my own fresh orange juice each morning. I'm booked in again next week.

We stayed 2 nights this week on a "Social Living" package deal, had never heard of the hotel before (even though we reside in Melbourne) but will certainly stay again and recommend it to all. The rooms are very clean & best of all 1 window opens which is rare these days, the bed very comfortable, bathroom very adequate, lovely thick clean white towels, a great breakfast was included on our deal and the free undercover parking was a huge bonus.
There is a tiny walk to the tram stop which will take you into the city & beyond, a very large warm spa in the Atrium, a sauna & gym also. For anyone on a longer stay or with a family there is a well equipped laundry. The rooms are very quite & the full wall of block out curtains makes for a lovely sleeping environment ( not like some hotels where the light comes through & its broad daylight at 2,00 am) all in all very good hotel. The city is about a 15 - 20 min tram ride away
but they are very frequent and safe.

Room Tip: We were on the 7th floor with a city view, the entire block across the road is an oval & tennis...

I live in Melbourne but needed somewhere to stay down St Kilda road and wotif had a terrific deal including breakfast, parking and wifi (although wifi is always free I think). I was upgraded and had a lovely room, very spacious and with a good bathroom and dressing area. sorry I only had the one night. Very well placed for trams to the City and to other locations in Melbourne. Very helpful staff

Room Tip: I'd probably avoid rooms facing out to St Kilda road

The hotel is situated on a very open area, no buildings in-front. Playground is full of players on weekends. One can have a cup of hot coffee and watching them from the hotel room window. The dining is awesome with lot of options to choose from for Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
One cannot smoke in rooms so it was very nice to have a fresh room every time.
The hotel staff is well skilled and they always welcome you. Very helpful staff.
The rooms are very good and the housekeeping is also very nice.
Fully equipped Gym and Sauna is also there on the top of the hotel.
The medical facility is also just around the corner. Tram station on walking distance. Lot of restaurants are around the hotel. This is one of the best hotels in Australia I have visited. I would like to be there again and again.

We stayed at this hotel our room was fantastic, spotlessly clean, comfortable a lovely view "bonus" over Albert park , a fantastic choice for us as we were attending a Wedding in the city. Car Parking great and the Breakfast was really lovely, great choices especially the passionfruit jars of yogurt. We will be back whenever we have reason to visit the city. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Corner Deluxe high up.

We stayed here for two night in winter. The staff are helpful and friendly, and the buffet breakfast (complimentary with our stay) was of good quality and variety. Transport into the city is easy enough, with a tram within 5 mins walk which will take you to the CBD within 15 minutes or so. The famous Chapel street is within walking distance.

There's Foxtel in the bedrooms (although not many channels), modern bathroom (although no bath) and the hotel is spacious enough although the reception area could do with a little updating and their free wifi internet is rather slow.

My only complaint is that the blankets weren't really thick enough for the icy Melbourne weather! We had to turn the heating up, but I would have preferred a thicker doona. Having said that, their blankets are pretty standard for all hotels.

Room Tip: We had a room facing the park which was pleasant.
