I found the room to be a bit on the small side but that's ok as we were only there to sleep. It was clean & the bed comfortable. The bathroom door didn't open very well as it opened onto the bath but otherwise it was fine. I didn't find the renovations too inconvenient, small time pain for long term gain. We did find it extremely expensive for what it was but it was Grand Prix weekend so all accommodation venues were making the most of it!

Dear Annat048,
Thank you for your review of Punthill Flinders Lane.
We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay. The weekend of the F1 Grand Prix is an extremely busy one for Melbourne, so prices are at a premium.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Punthill soon, to a beautifully renovated foyer and new lift.
Kind regards,

Stayed at Punthill Flinders Lane with my wife in June of 2012. Fantastic, quirky little property with a locations that is brilliant. Right off Degraves St and so close to all Melbourne CBD facilities. We are booked to return again for our Wedding anniversary in June of this year. We cant wait!

Room Tip: if you want superior location look no further.

We stayed here for 7 nights recently and found the place very nice and close to everything you need in Melbourne. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. They are doing lots of renovations but you don't go on holiday to sit in your room so it never worried us. The room was very clean and had everything we needed. A lot of people complain about the lifts but we had no problem we used the stairs to go down so only used the lift to go up. Would recommend this place and would be happy to stay again. Thank you Punthill.

a beautiful hotel here in Melbourne !! went here for a Jason Derulo concert ,, stayed here for one night and it was quite lovely. Only problem was the awful lifts ,, so old and rickety felt like they were going to break down and they shake u whilst arriving at your floor .. creepy and also take 10 mins to get to u but other than that it's amazing and so so close to the CBD and pub is right next to u ;)

I regularly stay in this hotel, so am aware of all it's little idiosyncrasies and am well prepared to take the rough with the smooth, however, just at present it's a nightmare. Over the years we've seen improvements to the once useless showers and a couple of other minor renovations. I was informed last year that the hotel would close for renovations this year. This has not happened. The renovations are in full swing, jackhammers at dawn, racket all day long etc. A warning at the time of booking would have been much appreciated, and would have allowed us to book in elsewhere for our lengthy stay.

This area of the CBD is pretty noisy at the best of times, so you don't need extra stress by what sounds like aliens drilling through the walls, floors and ceilings when you're trying to sleep or be preparing stuff for work etc.

The lifts are, as always, unreliable, and now, very, very dirty most of the time, because of the gangs of workmen tramping through the place, and look as if they're held together with string and chewing gum just now.

If serious renovations are needed here, it is in providing double glazing to ALL windows (not just the bedroom), new blinds that actually fit the windows and keep out the light, or light, pleasant curtains, instead of the hideous black things currently in place. The double glazing is needed on account of the street buskers, several of whom have amplifiers at levels which exceed EPA safety levels. To say nothing of the one who is completely talentless, and merely operates an amplified drum machine. Management do need to concern themselves with this issue, and I know that past managers have consulted with local police and council about this, quite successfully on some occasions.

This hotel also needs to reflect on accessibility for elderly or disabled patrons. The bathrooms are particularly dangerous and slippery when wet, with no handrails to help people to climb in and out of the bath. If you're elderly, I advise you to ask for a room with a walk in shower, not a bath.

Many rooms still have microwaves at a dangerous height. Short people can't reach them, and the risks of burns and scalding is great. Dust is still a major issue for people with asthma or allergies : the black curtains and astro turf (no I'm not kidding) on the window sills attract and hold dust, and it's very visible to the naked eye.

The fire alarms are a pain in the neck when you try to cook anything or use the toaster. The plastic chairs and armchairs are most uncomfortable.

Sadly, the really good managers of the last few years, Christine and Leith, have now left, as has Deirdre, the exceptionally caring weekend duty manager. We are back now to a series of managers, some good, some not so good.

Having said all of this, this hotel has a magnificent location, and is still a very safe place for visitors to Melbourne. It's just a pity that the demand for profit has been given priority over visitor comfort - it should have been closed down temporarily while renovations took place.

Dear OzNana,
We are devastated by your review. We absolutely did advise guests on our website that we are conducting renovations. We are so sorry that you were unaware. The foyer has been 90% complete for some time now. In one week, tiling will take place, with all tile cutting taking place off site. Floors are being completed one at a time and noise should be minimal. The main lift is being completed replaced.
The location of this property is second to none. The bedroom windows are double glazed but city noise is unfortunately one of the disadvantages of such a central location. We are in the midst of cafes, restaurants and some nightlife. We constantly work with the council and the various venues to keep noise levels as low as possible.
We do comply with all standards regarding disabled access. The microwaves are likewise at the approved height. The grass and cats on the window sill is just a quirky touch and we are sorry you do not like it. All apartments are being repainted. This has already commenced. The grass will probably be removed at that stage.
It appears that you did have a lovely relationship with our prior managers. We do in fact have permanent managers at the property and we are certain that they are giving the most wonderful customer service also. Deirdre has now retired after working for the Punthill Group for 17 years!
I do urge you to please contact our General Manager - Tania Sreco - on 03 9916 8888. We are really sorry that you clearly have been so disappointed and we would love to try to make this up to you.
Kind regards,
Robin

We stayed in a family unit (2 adjoining rooms). There was plenty of room and the children liked having their own bathroom. The units were well furnished and were serviced everyday. We didn't find noise a problem. The staff were friendly and attentive.
The location is wonderful and so convenient to public transport. For a family of 4 it was so close and accessible to the city and tourist attractions. We loved the little laneways close by where there were many food options, to suit all budgets.
Would definitely recommend these apartments.

I stayed here last week and was pleasantly surprised about the room quality. For a CBD location in Melbourne, the rooms were spacious and were overall excellent value. The rooms had just about everything you would get in a much pricier establishment. Each day they even replaced the soaps and shower cap in the bathroom, which is not often done in other places. The bed was absolutely fantastic for a good night's sleep. If you have a car they have a deal going with the nearby Wilson Car Park. It is about a three minute walk and is only $15 overnight. Once you walk outside the front door there are a myriad of cafes and restaurants which deliver great atmosphere and even better food. Lots of great shopping is also right at the front door. We would definitely stay here again for the price and location!
