Have stayed 3 times and have always found service & facilities to be excellent.
Centrally located near Chinatown & Theatres. Good value for money

This hotel is situated in a wonderful location near two major theatres. It is also close to the City Circle tram so you can travel all around the city for free.
The service at Rydges was excellent & the staff were particularly friendly & helpful. The rooms & beds were very comfortable.
We enjoyed cocktails, dinner & a sumptuous buffet breakfast in the comfort of Locanda Restaurant. The Manager, Manny was absolutely so hospitable. He could not do enough for us. We have returned to this restaurant because we were so impressed by his service. A bonus with our package was free membership to a Fitness First Platinum Club which is situated just around the corner. For any gym junkies out there this is an amazing gym with excellent classes. It is 30 seconds walk to Chinatown so you have a huge variety of restaurants. We would definitely return to this hotel.

Overall I was not impressed. I booked a night at the Rydges for my partner and I, and expected a decent, clean room for the price.

First thing I did was lay on the bed as soon as I stepped in the room and sank into it's softness ........ then kept sinking. Very uncomfortable nights sleep when two people keep rolling into the centre. Shame if it was one of the new 'Rydges Dream Beds'.

Everything in the room was coated in a film of dust. The heater also smelt like it was burning dust. The carpet was stained in patches and bleached in several spots. The TV did not work at all. The shower door was mouldy and there was no exhaust fan, so when we showered the whole room steamed up. The ceiling vent near the shower was full of clumps of dust, and it clearly has not been cleaned in years.

The towels looked like the ones I use on my dog, with tattered and frayed ends.
The noise from the street was extremely loud and came right into the room at early hours of the morning.
The guest services folder was EMPTY ........ kind of explains things.

On the upside, it was a quick check in and the buffet breakfast and restaurant staff were very polite.

It was a terrible review of your stay at Rydges Melbourne and I am very disappointed that you had this type of impression from your stay here. I certainly do not take these comments lightly and have addressed with the housekeeping team and disciplinary action will occur with this as well. As you would appreciate the standard of the rooms is a direct reflection on the management of the hotel and I certainly take these things personally and apologise you encountered such a poor example of a Rydges room experience.

We stayed here on 21 Aug 2010, while going to the Mary Poppins Show. This hotel is ideally located across the street from the theater. Great service, able to check in early in the day with problems. Excellent service,and staff, had to go back after checkout to claim a forgetten item. Never too much trouble. Will stay here again. Highly recommended.

It was pleasing you enjoyed your stay and the location across from Her Majesty's Theatre was convenient for your stay in Melbourne. There is also a new show starting at Princess Theatre up the road called Hairspray at the end of September which is also expected to be a huge success, hopefully we will see you back here for this when it's on.

My wife and I had booked a deluxe twin room for two nights at this Rydges hotel which would probably deserve a basic 4 star rating. We requested a change from room 1102 following our first night because the side springs in one bed base were broken resulting in a poor night’s sleep while trying not to roll onto the floor. Thankfully we were changed to a different room which was an even greater blessing because it moved us from being near an extremely noisy lift and also a rowdy family who commuted between several rooms talking noisily and letting doors slam for 90 minutes from 5:00am. The second night was more peaceful and we slept far better. Reception staff were extremely helpful and they cheerfully addressed our concerns and assisted with other requests during our stay.

The hotel is adjacent to Chinatown and in the Theatre district which was handy to Mary Poppins, The Musical, at Her Majesty’s across the road. It’s close to trams and trains and is only a few blocks from the city centre. The MCG is a pleasant 20 minute stroll.

It was of concern that there was an issue with the bed you stayed in initially, it obviosuly should not be the case that a room is made ready for a guest if there is this type of issue with a bed. I apologise you encountered this inconvenience but pleasing to read you had an enjoyable stay for the remainder of your time here and the location was ideal for your activities near Her Maj, Chinatown and the MCG.

Booked via priority member website, thought because I was a member that a nicer room would be allocated for my commitment to the priority guest program.

The room was HORRIBLE, marks on walls, mouldy bathroom, smelly room (smelled like smoke) and very noisey air con. We also arrived in the room with no towels, we had to wait 1/2 for them to arrive.

!!!

It was disappointing that the room cleanliness and maintenance wa snot of a good standard on your recent visit. Rydges Priority members are obvioulsy special to the group, although complimentary to join it shows a commitment from our customers that they intend to utilise the great benefits when travelling and using our hotels. All rooms should be of a much better standard than the description you have made and the hotel front desk should be confident in alllocation that whether being a priority member or not that the room will be very comfortable for guests.

This occasion it seems the housekeeping attention to detail was not 100% as was the maintenance of the room with painting etc. No towels in a clean rooms is both surprising and obviously not the normal standard, rooms should not be noted as ready for occupancy unless they are totally ready with towels, having to wait htis length of time is also an indication that there needs to be better communication with the rooms department team.

We arranged to stay in Rydges Melbourne due to our business trip. As we flew in from Sydney early in the morning and there were a big group of us, we were told that the rooms were not ready (not in a friendly way). The woman sounded very impatient and she just brushed us aside without even checking the computer.
When we finally checked in around noon, we were appalled to see that we were being assigned an extremely run-down room. The carpet was very dusty. The table lamp couldnt even be lifted up. The curtains were stained and my pillow case were torn!
I immediately called the room service and informed them of all the defects and requested for change of room. Again, almost immediately, the woman on the other line informed that they were fully booked for the day. She sent someone up to replace the torn pillow case.
When the person came and changed the pillow case, I took the opportunity to show her the condition of the room. Her face turned black immediately and her tone was again very defensive. I felt as if I was paying money to torture myself as I am someone who is willing to pay for good hotel room service and I am not getting any from Rydges.

It was disappointing to receive your feedback with your recent stay at the hotel. I can assure you if your room was in this state that the housekeeping team have been addressed with the manager on improving their attention to detail and service standards. The front desk personnel also should be more helpful with guests requests and your description of how this was handled is certainly not who the hotel is and not a true representation of Rydges as a group.
