“A perennial favourite”
Reviewed 30 July 2011

This has always been a favourite for many reasons.

Firstly, the staff are wonderful - they all greet me by name and make me feel respected - even if it is a new person, I am still bewildered how they know me.

We chat about normal things, football, music,my favourite restaurants etc. and it is done in both a personal and professional manner.

The location is probably the best in Melbourne - within 5 minutes, you can wander up Collins Street which is Melbourne's equivalent of Paris or 5th Avenue in New York for your favourite shopping or cinemas.

In the same time, you can wander down little alleyways for your favourite breakfast haunt or cofffee lounge.

If you are there for business, you are only 5 minutes from most business houses so it is a real walking city

My only problem is that it is continually a full house so you cannot always get your favourite room.

Some of my favourites are the corner suites which are at each end of the hotel and give you wonderful space and comfort.

A rare exception once though was for the AFL Grand final which is one of Australia's major sporting events - I was upgraded to the Regency Suite and I wondered why this trip, did it have to be today - I could watch the football street parade from my room and nearly gave up my ticket for the ground to enjoy it in more comfort from my room's tv.

It is also a great place for meeting colleagues in the ground floor lounge - whether it be friends or business, it is great for that cup of coffee or glass of wine.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a city view

My husband and I stayed at the Westin over the June long weekend with some friends. We had stayed at the Westin before and always enjoyed it but this visit was particularly good. Our room was very comfortable and the staff went out of their way to help us - nothing was too much trouble and the service we received from all of the staff we dealt with was excellent. I highly recommend this hotel!

This hotel has a great location. Right in the centre of the city, so close to the Mall and all of the shopping and right on Swanston St so you can jump on a tram. We arrived late afternoon, in the middle of peak hour and the driveway was crammed it was impossible to park the car for valet. Check in took a while too, with service being slow and careless.
The rooms are nice, modern and rather spacous compared to other hotels.
The best thing about this hotel is the location, you cant beat it!

My husband's business hosted interstate and overseas (NZ) affiliates at 2 day conference. Hotel facilities were fantastic and all attendees commented on fabulous rooms. All activities (sight-seeing, National Gallery, shopping, restaurants, etc) are in easy walking distance from the hotel. We have stayed there before and it did not disappoint on this our third visit!

I stayed for 2 nights, 13-14 July with a friend in a twin room on the 4th floor. at a rate of AUD355 per night. We had a lovely little Juliet balcony that overlooked the Square below and the Melbourne CBD around us. I thought the room was just lovely, big bathroom, nice bathroom products, good towels (not the best - but very good), the bathrobes had probably seen better days. I loved the 2 shower nozzles - a normal hand held attached to the wall but also a rain fall shower head attached to the ceiling which was different.

The room had 2 lovely double beds and honestly, I dont know what those beds are made of, but it feels like you are sleeping in a cloud - it is so heavenly. The pillows and doonas were just lovely and fluffy (especially since I had recently spent 2 nights at Travelodge Southbank - but lets not go there - that is a bad distant memory, phew!) The mini bar was well stocked and I was so happy you could open the balcony door and get some fresh air since there is a tendency to overheat the room in winter. My only comment is that the room is quite dark - I guess it should be romantic - albeit you dont want romance in a twin room with your buddy!! It is actually a bit hard to do your work or read books etc. if you are not sitting directly under the bedside lamps or the lamp stand. More down lights are needed in the ceiling .

The great bonus for me was the free WIFI access in the Lobby and in the Business Centre (but not in your room :-( that was one downer - you pay AUD355 a night and you get slugged $9 an hour or similar and need to ask Housekeeping to bring you the cable - should really be included in room rate these days).

The Business Centre is really well set up for guests to come and go if they need to work. There is plenty on daylight in one corner and the self-serve Nespresso machines was a very welcome benefit. Really good - there was no need for me to go to the office, the internet speed was great.

Another plus is Steve, the Head Concierge - he helped us reserve a table at a very sought after restaurant despite the rumours of months long waiting lists ...

And of course, the location for me does not get any better - you can walk everywhere in the CBD - theatre is next door, Bourke St Mall (David Jones etc) 5 mins walk.

An amazing experience at The Westin Melbourne! The service was absolutely top-notch and came naturally to the staff who were always around to help with anything we needed.
An early flight - arriving 530am in and check-in wasn't until at least 11am - they let us complete all the paperwork so it was a seamless transition when check in did arrive. No room to go sleep and refresh in but the next best thing; access to the spa, pool and fitness centre to freshen up and complimentary bar vouchers for coffee or tea - can't complain with that.
when we were allowed to check-in, we sauntered up and our luggage shortly followed. Double checking the reservation and room type - 'a standard room'. for a short stay in Melbourne, the room was definitely anything BUT standard! it was generously spacious with an amazingly large bathroom. The view was of a little courtyard but the view from our hotel wasn't a top priority.. the fact we were in Melbourne kind of was. The bed was deliciously comfortable and the room was warm and extremely welcoming.
days went on - our holiday continued. breakfast came and went - which was delicious and spoiled for choice.
Finally check out; late at that (4pm) fantastic considering our flight was at 8pm. waited around the lobby and took advantage of the lobby bar and their menu which was more than enough to get us through. When our car arrived - porters took care of luggage while we finished our drinks and made our way out.

The Westin, I think, is as big of an experience as Melbourne is itself. Great location, great service and a place that feels like a big secret to the rest of the world. AMAZING.

Room Tip: you'll be happy with any!

The staff were friendly, the room comfortable and clean, the valet service prompt. We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. The tasting menu for dinner which was very nice and quick and tasty before a show at the Regent Theatre next door. The only suggestion I have was to have the tea and coffee in pots at the table at breakfast. The cocktail in the Martini Bar was also a nice touch! The theatre next door was also a bonus.
We have stayed before and had a much better view of the city last time, rather than the small courtyard looking into another roomthis time, a small let down.
Overall a lovely stay!
