This is a classy hotel, especially for Australia and Melbourne. Have tried other places in town and this is the best. Service is excellent, location the best, dining, bars, public spaces great. Rooms oversized, but the showers leak. Good for business.

We stayed here on New Year's Eve. We loved everything about this hotel, especially the location. Loved the decor too, simple and modern, yet luxurious!

As a frequent traveller to Melbourne, I recently enjoyed a three night stay at The Westin Melbourne for the first time. From arrival to check-out everything about this property was terrific! It has a warm, friendly atmosphere despite the sizeable tiled lobby and wall to wall windows facing onto Swanston Street. Our deluxe room was very spacious and comfortable with great views onto Swanston Street, the bathroom was fabulous with a large shower and separate large bathtub, the vanity had two basins and good space overall. The location is absolutely first rate for the CBD shopping precinct plus it's so close to Flinders Street Station and Trams in all directions. The staff were generally very friendly and efficient. I'd definitely recommend this property for adults (didn't have any kids with us so can't comment on it's suitability) and look forward to staying at The Westin Melbourne again.

Just back from our first trip to Melbourne where we stayed at the Westin Hotel on Collins Street. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Our room was one of the nicest we've stayed in. It was large and spacious and very nicely decorated. This hotel is in a really great, central location. It's close to Swanston street and less than 5 minutes walk from the Bourke Street mall. Overall it's a thumbs up from us. Also we found Melbourne to be a really nice city and we will definitely go there again.

We stay in Melbourne around 20 times a year and have now switched from Langham to Westin over the last 18 months.
The hotel staff are very helpful, and nothing is too much trouble. The bar gets very busy with theatre goers, but it is lovely to be able to sit outside on the balcony while having a cocktail.

The two things we love most about the Westin is the location which is in the pefect shoping district of Collins Street boutiques and a minute away from Bourke St Mall etc. The 2nd is the beds, make sure you get a "new" heavenly bed, its like sleeping on a cloud, we have even bought pillows to take home.

Buffet breakfast is good without being exceptional, same as most 5* places, room service food late at night has always been good and prompt.

We stayed there for six nights, so we got a good impression of the hotel. It is a great location right in the city centre. The hotel is stylish and elegant but the staff unifroms are awful - may be that's why many of the staff look so unhappy.

In general, a beautiful hotel especially the lobby area but it is let down by some of its staff who are unfriedly and unhelpful, especially some of the waitresses. The exception were staff in the business centre and concierge, all of whom were helpful and friendly.

Check-in was very slow and service on the front desk always slow and frequently unhelpful - front desk staff seem to have little authority or experience and therefore need to check with their manager frequently, which slows things down. They have a tendency to say no and appear to be on a mission to increase hotel revenues.

Service standards, especially in the restaurant, are variable at best, very much depend on which waiter serves you. On our first day at breakfast at 10.05 am the waitress informed us that breakfast was finishing at 10.30, in a way that came across like she wanted to get rid of us asap. In the evenings the restaurant gets a lot of business from locals as it is a great pre-theatre location. This means that service for guests can be extremely slow at times. The food is good but the wait and the service aren't. There was a tendency to overcharge that we did not like, items appearing on the bill that we did not order or higher prices than stated in the menu...

At the end of our stay they credited our spg account with a small fraction of the spg points I was due...so many coincidences, all in the same direction of increasing their revenues, is this accidental?

If this is one of the best hotels in Australia, it says something about standards in the country. Any average hotel in Hong Kong is vastly superior. Having said this, we stayed at two hotels in Sydney - the Sheraton on the Park - another spg hotel - and the intercontinental and found them both markedly superior than the Westin in Melbourne. So it may be just hotel standards in Melbourne or just complacency setting in?

I took my sister to Melbourne for a girls shopping weekend and we stayed at the Westin.

We were met by the friendly conceirge staff who could not do enough for us. The gentleman who assisted us at checkin was fantastic - very lovely. He was even kind enough to show us how to use the lift (note: need your access card each time to get up to your floor).

We had a double room which was large enough for the two of us, our luggage and our multiple shopping bags! The bathroom was massive! It had a bath large enough for me to lie aka sleep in (and being six foot tall that's no mean feat!) with two basins and a shower with two showers heads??? - one standard water saving shower and one super large head. Note to self remember to turn the bottom tap in the shower as this turns on the standard shower head and you will not receive a rude and cold surprise from the other one!

A number of times we used the "Service Express" service to book dinner or tickets to attractions. Each time, they were amazingly helpful and prompt.

As part of our package, each morning we received a picnic breakfast in our room. WOW! At 8am we were greeted by a friendly person at the door with a table full of food! We each had a watermelon juice, strawberries, raspeberries, slamon, bagels, croissants, pineapple, cream cheese, cottage cheese, capers, onion, jams, omelette - my goodness the list goes on! I admit I was sceptical at the thought of a picnic breakfast (vs a buffet breakfast) but we were so full that we didn't need to eat lunch until about 2.00/2.30!

The view from our room was lovely. We overlooked the park to the front of the Westin! Our room had a floor to ceiling window!

The Martini Bar downstairs has a good selection of cocktails and a nice vibe to it.

But the best experience of all was the Allegro restaurant. For entree, my sister tried the rabbit ravioli and loved it - I had oysters kilpatrick - which are always good. For main, we both had the blue cheese crusted veal, with confit potatoes and port wine jus! THIS WAS AMAZING - you have to try it! And for dessert we both had the chocolate torte with marscapone.

All in all, we loved our stay at the Westin and cannot wait to stay there again!
