“dirty and discusting”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2013

Firstly at check in desk, there was a huge pile of old furniture and rubbish quite visible to all guests at front desk. After getting our key we found the bed linen had holes in it and was not clean, with long dark hairs on the beds, toilet and in the bath. The sheets were so thin and old.We then found 3 cockroaches in the room and squashed one on the bathroom wall.we showed the owner this after cleaners had been in to tidy the room and she did not really care about the bug guts left on the bathroom wall. The window was filthy and you could not see out of it.There was no towel rack in the bathroom so no where to dry your towel. We were told we had to pay for clean, dry linen or pay to use the dryers. The pillows were so old you would not class them as pillows. The so called apartment was a room separated with a musty, smelling cupboard. The hot water ran out after one child showering. We had to wait for hot water for quite some time.We complained, but nohing was resolved as we were told no manager was on and they could not make any decisions to refund our money. We left and checked in else where across the road with helpful staff and a beautiful, clean room with clean beds and linen. The owner refused to refund our money for the night we did not stay, even after seeing the bug guts on the bathroom wall.I would NOT recommend this accommodation to any travellers as it is dirty and the owner was just horrible to deal with when our complaints were genuine.I will be contacting the health department to investigate this discusting, unclean place.I am still waiting for the owner to contact me in regards to this matter as she cut us short on the day saying she had work to do.Would not recommend this establishment to any traveller. We took photos to show the owner the dirty marks on the bed linen and she basically ignored it.She simply was not interested in rectifying the situation at all.We then told her about the other guests that complained about the hot water running out and the dirty linen whilst we were complaining on the Sunday morning and she said they've never had an issue. They got our money and simply did not care.Do not stay at City Edge apartments East Melbourne.

Room Tip: We could hear the man upstairs using the toilet in the middle of the night

Hi, this 2 Bed Apartment on top floor does not have a lift only a staircase you walk up 3 flights of stairs (about 15-25 steps at a guess) so not a great idea for frail/elderly or disabled people to stay here, as we all struggled dragging our 5 heavy suitcases packed from Townsville to stay for 8 days.. If you are over weight you will not fit in the shower as its about 1metre square at a rough guess and there is no bath, and toilet was a real problem for 5 of us staying as its not separated from shower, it's in same room. They serviced our rooms once the whole 8 days, otherwise you pay extra for a daily service.
On the positive side, it was clean, kitchen has all basics fridge/freezer, microwave/toaster/jug/stove-grill-oven, has coffee mugs, glasses/wine glasses, plates, small bowls, pots/pans, cutlery, they provide some tea bags/coffee satchels (not many)

I think really you could fit 6 adults and 1 child- there is main room for 2 adults-beds are 2 singles pushed together- I found I had a sore back every night sleeping on these, but was warm enough as had a doona blanket on, plenty of cupboards space, small coffee table at foot of bed, 2 bedside tables one has night lamp and small radio. There is a full length mirror on wall. There is a single rollout bed in cupboard. Lounge has flat screen tv with remote that's hard to work/sofa couch big enough only for 2 small children or 1 large male adult, then there is a small 2bed couch, small 4seater dining table in beside sofa bed is a tight squeeze. The 2nd bedroom is 2 single beds, the split aircons do not work, but they must have heating in building as it was warm enough to be in just one jumper and jeans inside. There is a laundry on 2nd floor which has washing machine/dryer you will need a heap of one dollar coins for/ and own washing powder we bought is cheaper at supermarket. Top level does have some views, not spectacular but good enough for what you pay for. The best thing about staying here is you are close to everything, right near Fitzroy Gardens, St Andrews Cathedral, McDonald's/ Pizza Hut, 7 eleven, we did hire a car, but walked most days to Rod Laver Arena for Pink concert, stadiums/MCG is like 20mins walk, we walked 15mins to get on City Circle Trams (dark brown in colour)which are free and run every day until 6pm other days running later until 9pm, they have timetables on the trams or google timetables. There is also a free red city bus that also goes everywhere and does a free information tour on Melbourne History, it's fantastic we got it to and from Victoria Markets, and to Harbour Town then back to our apartment. We found LOCATION was the best spot here for sure if you don't care much for luxury and want to save money on accommodation. From Tullamarine Airport we hired a car(commodore fit 5 people and 5 suitcases with 5 carry on bags tight squeeze but we worked with it.) It is an 1.5hr drive roughly so found hire car would be cheapest as we also checked in at midnight(you need to call them for special instruction for after hours checking), We found snow at Mt Baw Baw the highlight of our trip as it snowed for us yesterday during our visit, we all adored it, Yarra Valley Dairy was awesome, as well as Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice creamery, we went to Yering Station winery and DeBortelli these were definitely things on the must do list, As well as Victoria Markets wow they have all fresh fruit/veggies, so many meat/seafood shop deli's, warm clothing, sweets, handbags, belts/boots plus much more, Go to St Kilda if you have young kids 5years up (think of ride heights) and see Luna Park-google day costs, My hubbie and I loved St Kilda as near the sea/port/beach and the specialty bakery shops were amazing, Rockos had best ever pizza and make their own St Kilda beer on tap was yumm.. Lots of amazing things to see like a man dressed in mexican riding his horse up streets, restaurant tram, In Melbourne DFO shops were great heaps to see, we ate at Little Lygon St Restaurant (Italian ) was great food/service.

I stayed here with four friends for two nights. I found the staff to be polite and helpful but the accomodation itself is poor. Our apartment smelled musty/bad, the beds were uncomfortable, and the facilities were very basic. It was fine for staying a couple of nice at a relatively budget price but i would not rush back here

Ive stayed here several years in a row for an event in Melbourne,
A one bedroom apartment with lots of room, a separate kitchen and somewhere to eat.
Its not luxury but it is comfortable and clean, price is way good under $100 for good space, quiet and good heating.
its a short walk into the city and public transport is not far. easy to park as well.
I did have an issue with a particularly rude staff member who informed me I would be up for a set amount when i couldn't find my Key, the issue was HE would not listen to me, I had let myself into the room and the key was lost in the room. (I eventually found it under the fridge)
I would stay here again

Room Tip: one away from the main road.

I like this hotel as it was close to city and transport. Hotel room was clean and quiet. Staff were very helpful. Hotel was close to all of Melbourne key tourist attractions located around the city. I will recommend this Hotel to my friends.

Now what gives this a very good above the average is the apartments are in walking distance to the MCG, free car parking, good clean rooms and the rooms are reasonably comfortable. The single bed was excellent...the king size zipper bed had two extremes...soft and hard...good size cooking and kitchen facilities...for the area the price is excellent
